Lowara ceam 70/5-V
« on: September 29, 2012, 03:50:47 PM »
On my last batch I had a blockage in my pump after the methoxide had been venturied in during stage 1 of a two stage no tit. I seperated the pump from the pipework to find some peeled paint stuck in the inlet port of the pump. I removed what I could and reassembled. The batch went as planned following that. Now I've removed the pump again to make sure it's all out but I can see traces of it still. If I undo the cap screws from the front body of the pump am I likely to gain access to the main impellor? Will I damage any seals by doing so? If so where can I get spares?

The peeled paint has come from the inside of the lid. It's now been cleaned so will not pose any problems in the future. I cant say that for the main body of the reactor which also has this coating but does not show any signs of peeling.

Can't help much as I've not got any experience with Lowara pumps but the tech sheet on the page above gives some good sections.

Nige, can you take photos during the strip down and write a few notes then we can add it to the pump section of the wiki.

If I end up stipping it down I'll do as requested. I'm waiting for a responce from Sir Pumpalot before deciding what to do. Thanks for the link Andy.

The pump is off the reactor again and I've given it a reverse flush with a hose pipe on full jet with the drain plugs out. Not totally convinced that it's all out.

Thanks, Nige.

The Sir Pumpalot title's probably going to stick ... very creative, Andy, we like it!

You've got to be able to take these pumps apart for cleaning, as fibrous stuff will jam in the closed impeller over time.  Disassembling it shouldn't be a problem, aside from the big o-ring that seals the pump outer case to the pump motor body, which can expand with veg/bio use.  I have a couple of common sizes spare which might fit your pump but worst case is buying some spares here:

http://www.polymax.co.uk/o-rings/rubber-viton-oring/

They do sell Teflon encapsulated o-rings too but I got quoted about a tenner a piece which is a bit steep... so all my spares are Viton.
