The pump shaft seal failed (despite changing it a while back) and because I was assisting fuel flow through the 10" filter housing I'd installed with a facet pump, the sump filled with bio/engine oil mix without me noticing.
First symptom was an unexpected surge of power when overtaking uphill on a motorway, the next time I touched the throttle the engine immediately went flat out with RPM gauge off the top of the red, torque converter was just slipping (couldn't take the power) and it made a lot of loud rattly noises. I imagine the motorway behind me was a bit smoky but I was too busy white knuckling it to the hard shoulder to notice.
I was going to rip the turbo hoses off, but it died down on its own fairly quickly. At that stage there was oil peeing out onto the hard shoulder.
I don't think anything was seriously broken, I think it just blew a few seals, but I'd had enough of the Delica at that point to bother with fixing it up (had to do a lot of welding for the last MOT, transfer box output bearing was knackered as was the rear diff seal, and it was the one I spilt a 60l drum of veg into the back of) so decided to call it quits.
A chap bought it off me and as far as I know had it running for a while because it was insured according to askMID, however it's not been that way for a while so I think it's reached its end of life.
The Largo at least has the fuel pump on a belt at the rear of the engine so any leaks can't end up in the sump. I have mixed feelings about the Largo, it corners much better than the Delica, but it's not as powerful (could do with Nisaan's 2.7 lump in it) or as solidly built. Looks pretty enough for an MPV though.
