Need help got a problem
« on: July 10, 2013, 09:53:13 PM »
hi all

car = VW BORA 1.9 TDI 51 plate.

got a leaking fuel injection pump, the leak occurs after the car has been parked after driving then stood still, it sort of drops an an amount that when it hits the floor spreads out to a patch of say 5 inch across over night.

heres some pics of the location, look at the inch thick block of metal at the end of the pump on the right its sandwiched between main body of pump and 4x injector pipes and the leak is we think coming from the seal / joint, inside there is a a big o-ring we think (took a simarlar pump apart first, it didnt go back togehter well it did look ok but snapped main shaft off!) ouch...

but saying it could be the jiont is only a guess as its so tight down underneath the pump you can only see with a mirror partly... are there any inspection cover plates down there maybe a gasket leaking?

any ideas?

or does anyone know how to remove a pump IE: lock all pulleys on cam belt so we can remove pump.

heres pics...

That block is on the high pressure part of the pump, there's a big O ring that seals it, this could be what's leaking.

I have no idea about the VW's, but on an XUD you can remove the pump leaving the cambelt untouched.

Prolly the 'O' ring between ally case and cast hydraulic head....

Thats the most common leak point concerning the hydraulic head. There will be the advance solenoid valve under the pump that also leaks, Just get a full kit and change them--after first pinning the actuator-cover for re-location EXACTLY where it is now...

Under the square top-cover, is the actuator assy.

This is a plate sandwiched between the top and main body and has its own screws. The slots the screws are set in allow movement fore and aft for position setting.

This is rather an exacting adjustment, set at factory with a test-bench and controller etc, and I recommend carefully drilling a .8 to 1.0mm hole at a convenient point through the actuator plate and into the main body so as to locate a peg/pin that will allow exact replacement.

You can do this from above on one side and underneath on the other.....
--Just take care of swarf etc.

Alternatively--Leave the actuator alone and just change all the other seals--But, the actuator to body seal--will fail in time....
