Is it me or is the VOD getting to be the same old stuff, as the cash flow gets tighter there seems to be a lot more 'Hi from Newby' or 'can I run my car on oil' or 'I did this and now I have this problem' - it seems to be a long time since there was a good discussion or new development
-
good discusions here, albeit above my head sometimes ???

I posted this nearly two years ago saying pretty much the same thing ... http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum/viewthread.php?tid=22958
Which is why I hardly use the VOD any more. I find the off topic threads a real pain with far too many car repair posts or, as you say, people asking daft questions to save a penny or two without putting any effort into research first. I think others feel the same way looking at the rate of new posts in the last couple of months.
Shame, it used to be so good.

Then there's the increasing 'Political' inspired posts...
Another forum I use bans them outright, together with ANY political biased reply to any post.

The political point would be difficult to argue against considering Chug and HC are so dominant in their views. Personally, it doesn't bother me as I don't read those threads.
However, I think the VOD still has a good position in the bio discussion genre dispite the number of newbies asking questions. There are many on this site that started out that way....me included....I say don't knock it. Of all the biodiesel sites on the web these two...biopowered and VOD are the two we all turn to first.
-
It was obvious from the start that this forum would pull the more serious/experienced brewers away from the VOD leaving it to beginners, newbies and lurkers.

Now I have had my afternoon nap I don't feel quite so grumpy. The web is a wonderful place to search/read and if used properly the answer is out there, if you don't find the answer then your question is unique. We are all feeling the pinch at present but some people don't research and then wonder why things are going wrong with their vehicles because they think that an alternative fuel is the answer to cheap motoring - they forget about the need to dewater/filter/blend or the basic chemistry lesson about playing with chemicals. Rant over, back to sleep.

im going for gold i had 2 naps today just woke after second hehe

Yes the VOD has gone down in quality, far to much non bio/veg stuff.
No, that's not quite right, the quality is still there, it's just harder to find amongst all the other stuff.
Yes Nige, we did all start knowing nothing and asking loads of questions, silly ones as well.
I was running veg for a year before moving over to bio, I spent a long time reading everything that was posted at that time,
it left me with more questions than answers, I messed up and learnt from it (sometimes anyway).

Funny you should say that.......
Not got much more done, just done it quicker, and got to bed a bit earlier. A good lesson in that not knowing what is happening in the world hasn't killed me.
Three network, went off, came back on, went off again. It'll be back on tomorrow, then monday, then next monday, then, Oh, you don't have any signal in your area anyway..............
On a landline from the bungalow now. Good so far. Little slow, but the router I'm using was half knackered 12 years ago.
-
good to see you back GM i started a thread on where are you
-
I just found the thread. No replys to it so I guess everyone else was just glad I was gone.......:P lol.
Tying to download the toon now. For some reason, although its quick enough between pages, its mega slow downloading you tube.

The MIG welding forum has a set of rules thus:
http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum-rules.htm
It seems to keep them on the straight and narrow. I've seen political discussion pulled up pretty swiftly.
That said, I think we're considerably more relaxed and a bit of variety is good, so long as there's not too much of it.
-
i think overall here is quite good and stays on topic most the time, there is the odd nutter who drags it down now and then but i wouldnt know who that is, hes very lost at the moment, specially with names muhahahaa
:P

there is the odd nutter
Yeah he's a very odd nutter ;D

I find the ill informed, semi literate political, anti-EU, anti-Government, pro / anti Benefits, religious rants increasingly annoying & really off putting on VOD. Trouble is, half the mods who should be moderating are posting that stuff. Bit of a contradiction when the moderators are the most immoderate of the whole membership!
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/moderate
Definition of MODERATE
a : avoiding extremes of behavior or expression : observing reasonable limits <a moderate drinker>
b : calm, temperate

weekends are always slow online - people are out doing better things.
