anyone use this app? its free and cross platform so you can text free and send pictures free...
http://www.whatsapp.com/
How it works
WhatsApp Messenger is a cross-platform mobile messaging app which allows you to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS. WhatsApp Messenger is available for iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone and Nokia and yes, those phones can all message each other! Because WhatsApp Messenger uses the same internet data plan that you use for email and web browsing, there is no cost to message and stay in touch with your friends.
In addition to basic messaging WhatsApp users can create groups, send each other unlimited images, video and audio media messages.

Hmmm, well not sure about that. I have been using it for about 18 months, changed phones from an iphone 3GS to an iphone 5 this week and still works fine.

oh right, yes could be right then, but yes it is very good app indeed....

Yeah great app, I've been a user for nearly 2 years. Very handy for keeping in touch with people for free while I'm away in Oz.
Anyway, my first post, been lurking here for a while...posts over on VOD seem to be getting a bit samey.

Looks like whatsapp could end up integrated with other google products:
