Title: Mobile compatibility, worth it or not?
Post by: Tony on January 01, 2011, 05:47:25 PM
I see there are a couple of extensions for MediaWiki that would make it more mobile device friendly (for those of us with Android/iPhones):

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:MobileDetect

...but obviously bit of a hassle to install.

Is it worth doing?

I see the forum already can work with mobile devices:

No advantage to me personally, it's tecnowalage from a different planet!  But probably best to move with the times even if I don't.

Presumably it's a "once and for all" add on, so if you can do it without too much hassle, I'd say go for it.

It's definitely a once-only thing - it looks like Wikipedia does it differently, but it's even more complicated; from what I can tell these extensions "reskin" the wiki in a mobile device friendly way, which isn't *too* complicated but will still require some head scratching :)
