Title: Soap and Glycerol?

Just got thinking - this might be a stupid question, but what is the difference between the Glycerol we drop at the end of a batch, and the "soap" that drops out of suspension from the biodiesel after settling for a week?

I think I can say without contradiction ... colour.

And possibly some numbers and letters ...

Glycerol  C3H5(OH)3

Soap  C18H36O2Na

Everything but the colour bit goes stright over my head!
