can i run a flourescent tube on an 12 volt inverter ok?
does it need a ,assive load to kick in?
when lit does it use very low power?
any help appreciated thx

Don't waste energy taking the power through an inverter, just run directly off the battery chap

RM I think I have some 12v strips, yours if you want them. Let me know if you are interested and I will dig them out and test them.

If you look at the last picture in the first post on my flame plug installation thread, in the top right hand corner, you will see my Florescent light.
Its 12V, and if its on the roof above your head, you can easily read a book by its light. Situated where it is, it is not brilliant, but will light up the van enough to find the kit in it. I only put it there for safety, so I didn't smash it off the roof with something.
It cost around £20, and I've had it on all night, and its not made the slightest bet of difference to the battery.
So much better than an incandescent light.
I'm pretty sure this one is identical.

RM I have one 12v caravan fitting and a low energy 240v one. The 240v one is brand new 13w. If you want them they are yours.

why bother with florescents? use LEDs much lower power and you can get them in 12v or 240 volt. no glass to break and no inverter needed. flouros are old technology only really useful for retro stuff.
