Wonder if they had any of mine that has gone missing over the years?

I don't imagine they stole any of the oil collections from members on here.
It sounds more like they were impersonating a large national company and stealing their oil - which actually sounds like quite an enterprising approach.
It does amaze me though that the prison's are too full to put people who commit burglaries and assaults inside yet a couple of men who, whilst they have broke the law, have not hurt anybody, get two years.
There is definitely something wrong with this country.
-
Looks like a total of £140k of oil stolen though, that's a massive amount! It's not like they nicked a couple of tins.
-
It does kind of show what a shambolic setup the real collection company must be, to not notice that much WVO disappearing. You would think the crooks would have been tracked down and had a good lamping soon after they started the scam.

There's no way that's accurate though. Its like when they stop some barge full of hash, and then calculate it at £5 bag prices.
In total, West Midlands detectives identified 227 oil theft offences resulting in a loss of £71,380 for the company Bradley and Walker’s scam operation so closely resembled with an additional £76,000 worth of oil stolen from KFC.
...so,
£71,380 + £76,000 = £147 380
/ 227
= £649.251101
They had a transit van, and a home made syphoning device. And yet they *averaged* £649 worth on every theft.
What's the going rate for an IBC now, £450 ish, give or take £100? So that's more than 1000ltrs averaged on every pickup, with their "homemade siphoning kit"
The only other way to read it is "227 oil theft offences" as in 227 laws broken. I kinda doubt there are 227 laws on the theft of wvo to break!

I doubt it - the article says that it was sold on to a commercial producer at a premium price.
-
There is a commercial producer in Stourport that buys oil they may have been selling it there. I am not implying in any way that the bio producer knew the oil was hokey.

It all pales to insignificance compared to this scheme:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2012/12/19/mystery-biodiesel-train-credits.html
Basically shuttling the same 12 cars of biodiesel back and forth across the Ca/US border to repeatedly generate renewable energy credits!

always a scam going on, like politicians expenses, world sucks.... :-\
