Does the lack of diesel return mean that diesel can return to the veg tank? I presume the loop is there to keep the veg nice and hot rather than for the diesel?

Paul ...

Looking at this diagram http://www.biopowered.co.uk/wiki/File:Twd.jpg the connections are either C-B or A-B.  Based on that, the diagram you show doesn't seem to make sense.

If the lower connection on the IP is the spill back line, then the right hand connection on the lower valve, should go back to the dino tank or dino fuel line.
The upper valve should be re-orientated, i.e. turned 90°anticlockwise, so it switches between either dino or veg supply.

As I said in a previous post I'm not an expert on veg systems so it may be better to get opinions from those in the know.

Just another couple of observations ... if the lift pump you show is the original fitted to the car, aren't they normally fitted after the filter?
And should there be a pump on the dino supply line?  Can't see how the dino gets to the IP otherwise.

Think it's because most rotary IPs incorporate a lift pump (sucking the dino up from the tank), but this is supplemented for thicker veg by a facet style pump down at the tank end, both to reduce the work of the IP and to reduce the risk of air leaks in the system?

Didn't know IPs had integral lift pumps ... said I knew nothing about veg systems.  But it's shown as a mechanical pump which would suggest original equipment.

maybe right on the 1 valves orientation? checking now....

----------------------------------------------------

this particular pic was for a landrover 110, that has mechanical lift pump on engine before (filter and injection pump) on twin tanking the bosch IP sucks anyway (found this out as noticed his lift pump was dead anyhoos) whuch helped twin tank...

so IP pulls diesel on its own, IP may of pulled veg on its own? but, repaired mech lift pump and separated original system to use mech pump on veg,

ok what my orig Q was refering to the loop, it needs to be AFTER HE else purging takes a long time as to clear veg out HE for pure dino to be back in...

Julian you have a very keen eye my friend, well spotted, didnt even notice it, but in my mind i knew how to fit it, but newbies would find this odd and confusing...

thx chap  ;)

Nasty pound filter...NO, it's not worth the risk of damaging IP

fit a proper filter, my mate did forecourt pump service/repair and you should see some of the crap he got out of them, you can get a proper filter from a scrap yard for a couple o quids.

I've had a few people over the years that tried looping and preferred it, if you keep the lines from fuel select valve to the IP and from the IP to return valve as short as possible then flush times are not a problem. Being looped on diesel helps it warm up slightly quicker, and once wrmed up and switched to veg you can either keep it looped or return to tank to help warm contents (well if you have a decent return flow like my transit, it wouldn't make any difference on my XUD as the return is almost nothing)

some people go on about air but it's never been a reported problem and if ever it did you just select return to tank to purge.
Some people also go on about returning fuels to their respective tanks so not to contaminate, but you are only adding a very small amount of diesel to the veg tank if it's setup correctly and you have your purge times sussed.

should i loop after valve in or before valve in?

after valve in would sort of be wrong? (how pic is now, edited version above chugs post)

loop plumbed in after the input valve is my preference, see it on smartveg video.

Weird smartveg site is no longer but their demo of tt setup is still there?
