if it is a ammonia one they only work if they are level. make sure it is level and leave it standing for a few days. sometimes they work sometimes they don't. they definitely wont work if they are not level.
-
Connect it to your leisure battery, when i tested that other one it took over night to get cold?
Couple of nice buys i reckon! (if it works)

you may be right i read in an online manual about being level, it was on its side in my car then i stood it up and plugged it in.
i dont think its a compressor one? its an old very old one an electrolus RM 120, 12v and gas.

Your fridge will need a lot more than 4 amps to work. The one in my caravan takes nearly 10A at 12V.
All three heat inputs (mains, 12V and gas) just drive the gas reabsorbtion circuit. Gas gives best result (as it has lots of heat) but mains doesn't do a bad job either.
The 12V elements are not really man enough to properly chill the fridge by themselves. They will keep it cold once chiilled by gas or mains though but even so, will need 8 to 10A to do so.

Running on 12V will not only just about keep it cool, but will drain a battery in no time.
-
what about these 12v coolers from like argos and maplins, only 12 volts, will they use less power, be thermostaically controlled (caravan 12v fridges arnt = full on all time)
aslong as it cool im cool so to speak, keep me milk sausages bacon cool...

They probably use Peltier cell, same as Paddy's TEGs, but backwards. They will only cool to so many degrees below ambient.
-
dont forget absoption fridges dont have effective thermostats so it will draw 10 amps all the time it is plugged in. the otehr thing to remebr is that they cant cool by more than 25 degrees C so in the summer in a hot van you are still going to have melted butter and warm beer.

im looking at not having a fridge and buy beer i mean milk daily 8)
more cupboard space

Maybe I'm missing something - but what's the connection between the fridge and the Lister engine?
I'm going to assume there isn't one had have a go at splitting and merging topics to make a new thread, lets hope it doesn't make a mess (good to practise these things!)
