Title: Biochog
Post by: Tony on October 30, 2012, 07:44:18 AM
No, not a plastic processor I've found, but a friend in the shed :)

I'd heard something moving about in the shed before, as there is a gap under the door - but never saw what was making the noise.

Yesterday I spotted this chap just outside the door, trying to sneak under some discarded hose - I'll have to be careful walking to and from the shed as he blends in quite well with the leaves.

He's dug a den in the sand under the concrete retaining wall next to my shed so I think he's here to stay.  Perhaps he likes the light that comes on when it's dark to light up the area around the shed door :)

Turn him up-side-down and he'd make a great scrubbing brush for removing congealed oil off things.

See that Julian, that's being nice that is!

Use him as a brush indeed, mumble mumble might need dipping in petrol first mumble mumble

Take good care of him(?) they are getting rather rare. If he is not heavy enough he might need feeding up or he will die in hibernation. No I don't know how heavy they need to be!

500-600gms according to the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.  I'll pick him (or her) up some good quality dried cat food.

We have had them in the garden before, they like the wood pile.  I'm currently building a bike shed for the kids with a deliberately hedgehog friendly space underneath for them, though this one has already sorted himself out an awesome winter den, done quite a lot of tunnelling he has!

I need some of them in my bio shed - they can do me a favor by eating all the snails!

Used to be loads of them around here, they do seem to have got less in the last few years, but i suppose the population numbers must fluctuate. Five or six of them outside your bedroom window make a heck of a racket, and you want to hear them mating..............

But then I suppose given the way they are dressed, its understandable the noises they make doing it.

Someone must be keeping tabs on them, coz the 4 I get on my patch on a regular basis have got different colour paint sprayed on their backs.

He may well be! I wouldn't be surprised if he's capable of sticking his teeth into a cubie.
