Ive got to pick up two IBC,s on Tue from a guy who used them as part of his filtering system so there are holes where they were linked,free to a good or bad home,i will take some pics when i collect them,IIRC they have a good coating of veg oil,so unlike a Discovery they will be rust free

In my defence i have spent the last 10 years sitting in 3 various Discoverys 5 days a week,watching them decompose around me,they tow great and (usually) keep going but the build quality is crap,every time it goes to the garage its "a common fault" and the one we are using at the mo has got to be sold before it hits 150,000 as its "a common fault" that the heads go about that time?
If we go around a corner after rain i get soaked in the passenger seat by a flood running down the seat belt and the last time it developed a rattle i jokingly banged the dash-3 buttons fell off the radio!
All in all i think i would rather have a Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

To be fair, you are right about some of the issues. Water leaking round the sunroof and getting you wet going round a corner is common - and it is the main reason why the boot floor panels rot too.
I can't see the point in selling a perfectly good vehicle before 150K as the head 'might' go at that point. DIY for a head change is between £250 and £450 depending on whether you want a fully built up one or are willing to do all the work swapping valves and the like over to the new one. It can all be done and running in one day.
The biggest cause of head failure is the design flaw in the 300Tdi engine where the water pump is mounted so high that as soon as the coolant level drops only slighlty, the pump starts to cavitate as it is not fully submerged. At that point circulation to the aluminium head is lost and within seconds it either warps or goes porous.
The big giveaway sign is the heater suddenly blowing cold (as head coolant circulation also passes through the heater matrix). If you are ever in a Disco and that happens, make you whoever is driving stops immidiately.

Sounds like those who have these vehicles would do well replace the water pump with an 12V pump lower down.
