Soldering page is done. I'll have a bash at editing Paddy's processor page next, then silver soldering and then move onto the GL processor.
I've already had a look at Paddy's page and was going to call it a twin tank processor so as to avoid over use of trade names. Is this likely to cause confusion with Keith's two drum processor ... any thoughts?
-
I'll help with the GL one if I can.
Re "twin tank", that's associated with running on veg so probably best to avoid that one too!
-
It will be "Twin tank biodiesel processor" in the biodiesel processor section, so sufficiently far removed I think. I was just concerned about possible confusion between the two processors.
In reality Paddy's is a "preheat" tank plus reactor and Keith's a reactor plus a "wash tank", so perhaps both should be categorised differently. There are many processor versions. I think we should try and cater for them all and I think you've made a good start with the subdirectory on processors.

You've clearly described the differences right there, without needing to drill down into the page content. Maybe we can do something with that?

I always think there's just two basic types,GL and the type normally involving two drums or more,I loathe the name " non gl" tho,
It would be great to have a name that covers the other type as I never know what to call them ???
I will have a go at doing something on the Tam and Rotary says what about Tonys abbreviation page?
Speak later :)
-
I did think I should pull across the abbreviations page. OK, go on, you've twisted my arm!
-
I'll have a think around how we might categorise processors. I'm inclined offer a brief history of processor design culminating in the GL stating that it's BATNIEC.
Then make provision for other versions in the way Tony has already. Might look like we are favouring the GL, but in view of it's almost universal use, in various versions, in the UK I don't think that's unreasonable.
Looking to the future and assuming the site becomes popular we need to consider how units like the Appleseed processor will fit into the equation. I don't have a clue about it other than it's very popular in the US.
-
When there was a poll on the other site the gl won but was far from universal and no i could only vote once ;),from what went on the other night it seems some are fed up with it been seen that way, why not do a family tree type thing and it would branch at reclaiming meth? or have i been sniffing it
-
Processing almost needs a flow chart for the options branching at:
- Glyc prewash/dewater
- AAF/venturi/pump in Methoxide
- Single stage/two stage
- WBD or not
- Prewash or not
- Demeth by condensor/wash out Meth/bubble out Meth
- Settle/water wash/dry wash
- Filter or not
I guess we all have our own favourite way to do things and individual reasons for doing them.
In some ways it's good - we have a lot of choice!
But you can understand that if you're new to this game, it's hard to understand how it all fits together in the grand scheme of things, and which are necessary or not, and the reasoning behind why you'd want to perform certain steps.
We've made what can be a simple process into quite a complicated game - but, I suspect as a result our fuel quality has improved.

Thanks Keith useful info, we should obviously go with what suites the majority. I was only going on what I'd surmised. Have to say I missed the poll, how long ago was that?
And what went on the other night? I look in frequently but I seem to miss half the stuff that's of any consequence!
-
Family tree , flow chart same same, but pretty good idea! Is it possible on here to do one graphic different areas of which are linked to various pages? Anyone any experience of this?

GL is definately a majority but even they dont seem straight forward to me,the orig design was for a single copper tank-yes? but Jims are what 3 or 4 steel tanks now? but still a GL,good luck with the flow/tree ;D
Better than anything on tv the other night, father tedish "i hav,nt got a feckin gl and i dont want a feckin gl" was one memorable line
-
How on earth do I miss these things? Got a link?

PM sent

PM me too Keith, I spend too much time on the forum and yet also missed that one!

Many of the Americans are now moving over to GL style processors although the appleseed is still popular as it is the most abundant used hot water heating device to find free or cheap 2nd hand over there.
Until Graham came along with the GL the appleseed was 'The' processor to have, I had been brewing bio for about a year when Graham first arrived on the scene( I remember it well as there were very few of us UK biofuelers back then) and it was not long after I had literally just binned my old burco boiler with a washing machine pump attached and made myself a version of the appleseed based on a clip top drum.
It wasn't to long after Graham arrived on the scene that he unveiled his "1 day EcoSystem processor" as it was first called. But the benefit and ease of it still didn't hit home to me until Graham demo'd it to a load of us at my 2nd bio buddies bash in summer 2007, even then it still took me some time after that to actully add a venturi and condensor to my processor.

Chug ...
Have you got any photos of your early set up. Might be nice to have those in the processor section as historical interest and, if it was open topped, to highlight possible dangers.
-
I may still have one of the old (open topped, shock horror) burco setup, I'll have look.
