Has he?  Maybe it was about the, err, slightly over the allowance fuel quantities?  I did think it a touch foolhardy to post such a thing, but hopefully he's not taken it personally?

Oh really, I do wonder why some people make such wild claims on a public forum, I really doubt he uses that much and I can understand how it feels good to round figures up without thinking of the bigger picture. I expected him to come back with " ooops meant X amount a month not a week"

No I'm not sure who Oliver was referring to.  Someone with a broken down car?

Edit: "with one car only starting now" I took to mean that only one car could be started (IE others won't start; broken) but I see SilverSaloon's 's sig says " just starting its WVO life" against his Merc so I think it was him that Oliver was referring to.

That's done by the web browser, but not all browsers do this. We now have a shiny new spell check option for those that don't. :)

Load average is 0.23 and bandwidth use is lower than normal now it no longer hosts a bunch of games servers.  So no worries so far unless people start reporting performance issues.

If it doesn't keep up Chug has recommended some very good cloud hosting that could easily handle way over the traffic VOD receives, at a fraction of the price Paddy pays for hosting. But so far we're a way off that :)

Hi mate, what games were you hosting servers for? How can I host a webserver? i.e what software do I need? Apache and what else?
Finally how come I am a wiki thingy? Who was silly enough to promote me? hahaha ;D

Hey Arash.

I used to contribute code to Alien Arena (you'll see my name in the in-game credits which is pretty cool) so hosted a bunch of servers before it became more popular in the EU. I still do host one of two worldwide master servers (which is how the game knows who is playing what, where).

All you need is a little linux box that doesn't draw too much power (as it'll be on 24/7) and LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySql and PHP) though I run LLMP (Linux, Lighttpd, MySql, PHP).  Also a mail server (Postfix + Dovecot for IMAP, PoP).  Then years of experience locking it all down with IPTABLES and the like so that hackers don't get in.  Seriously - it gets portscanned umpteen times a day followed by at least two attacks per day.  So custom firmware on your router to report port scanning and limit TCP/UDP flooding helps too :)  Then there's the fun of upgrading packages live and upgrading Linux distributions live (not for the faint hearted that one, I tell you!)

What router are you running tony?

I've acquired a nice little thinkpad with plenty enough grunt for a web server. And it only pulls 8W. I've got it all set up and ready to go - I've just not let the internet in yet...

It's actually a common or garden Netgear DG834GT.  The GT has a Broadcom chipset that is exceptionally good at handling line noise (shared with some Thompson routers but unlike those has proper NAPT).  Runs DGTeam firmware http://dgteam.ilbello.com/  It's so reliable that when the last router failed it got swapped out for one exactly the same :)

Sounds like fun, I might have a go at that, been meaning to setup a voip server as well, yet another project. Some time it depresses me when I think of all the projects I have in mind and how little time I have for them! Must spend less time on forums (all 20 something of them!!) and more time making stuff!

I have always been a bit of a night owl, also did 2 years of permanent nights, now if I don't get to bed about 10pm I struggle to sleep till 4 or 5 am. I used to be worse, didn't sleep for 48H and still go to work and go out for beers after work... then sleep like the dead for 15 hours!

I have had some weird experiences while sleep deprived. I have also had some mind blowing epiphanies when also in the same state.  :o
Although having never tried hard drugs I can totally understand when people try and explain to you the feeling! hahahaha ;D

Hmm not sure about epiphanies but had some very odd experiences when also, as it happens, sleep deprived.  But not from nights, from arrival of new small children. I love my sleep and tend to get very grumpy when deprived of it!

I know exactly what you mean. Severe sleep deprivation leads me to into the kind of mental state that nothing else can. Its a great place to be.
I worked solid for 48 hours once on the roads. I'd got little green gremlins crawling up my legs, I could see them clear as day. Driving home, it was like I was floating down the road, and the road looked like  a long strip of liquorice unfolding in front of me. (to quote someone else). My mood was swinging from the highest states of euphoria, where I'd be laughing hysterically, down to the depths of despair, and back again.
That was one of the most extreme times, but I've had milder doses plenty of times. Its just a shame its so painful to get there.
