Mark pointed out to me that since they are so deep they can easily be cut in half to make two. So mine are off with a mate for a bit of lathe work today :) Two will become four!

Ah yes when Geri Halliwell was quite attractive - before she did the boney skinny thing!

Happy days :)

Will have a go at an inline heater using disposable gas bottle.
-
Nice job!
Don't forget to take lots of photos, we don't yet have a page on in-line heaters.
There's something I thought of a while back and never got round to trying. It's for creating the shape of the hole where the inlet and outlet, tangentially intersect the body ... try setting up the pipe, just spaced above the body, and shine a light from directly above. It may cast a shadow of the pipe on the body.
Be interesting to see if it works.

Hey that's a good idea.
I have a set of these HSS burrs to use making the odd port shapes prior to welding on the pipe:

Cheap - will see how they perform vs the thick steel on those disposable argon bottles.
-
I used similar, but cheaper looking, ones on my (non)gas cylinder, after chain drilling the hole.
-
Where can I get one from please chaps.. ::)
-
Mine were commissioned by Keith, but I think Steve (e3msb) sells them on VOD, £12 for one or £22 for two delivered.
I don't know if Steve's are big enough to machine down into two like Keith's were.
-
Cheers Tony Ill u2u them both and see ..

You could try the method shown at the bottom of this page ... http://www.biopowered.co.uk/wiki/Fitting_a_heater_flange

Sorry, all mine went a while ago and James has since had my tap,not sure if Steve has any and you would need to ask the size as the pic he uses is mine
This might be of interest

Keith, from your past experience, did you buy pipe the correct ID to be threaded with your tap?
I'm just wondering if they would be any more economical to produce by thread cutting on the lathe.

Yes i came across a short length (40") of 3" wide tube, internal diameter of 2 3/8 and walls of 8ml and they ended up been done on a lathe, thats why i let Jim have the tap,but as i dont have a lathe i was paying to have them made
-
Done on a lathe with your tap or with a thread cutting tool?

Thread cutting tool

Ho hum, yet another bright idea spirals down in flames to crash in the canyon of oblivion!

Ho hum, yet another bright idea spirals down in flames to crash in the canyon of oblivion!
Why?
I had to pay someone else to do it but you have a lathe if i remember correctly?
-
A chap at work was saying that some places sell pre-threaded pipe they'll cut to your specification - I wonder if Metal Supermarkets would do them?

I do, but the presumably the chap you paid knew what he was doing and had a far more substantial lathe than me.
I've not yet cut threads and the learning curve will be enormous, but I wouldn't mind giving it a go ... don't suppose you've got any bits of pipe left, have you?

I think he's probably referring to externally threaded pipe (not sure chow they would thread long lengths internally), but if they do 2¼" internal that would be great. If the cutting charges are high, I've got a large mechanical hack saw which just needs a single phase motor fitting or a three phase supply, which would make light work of it!
-
No definitely talking about internally threaded pipe because he was the chap that lopped my bosses in half on his lathe.
My dad has a reciprocating mechanical hacksaw but it's nowhere near as impressive as FH Brundles hydraulically operated bandsaw that lops through even the big stuff as though it was cheese!

Sorry all 40" of it was turned into flanges
