Title: Waste code for glycerol.
Post by: dgs on April 07, 2022, 04:35:01 PM
We are changing our ad plant where we take our waste glycerol. ( the original plant would still take it but need me to transport it. 2x ibc's so I would rather not pay for adr carraige ) They have asked us for the EWC code. Do any of you know what this could be. Googling it brings up a host of options none of which seem to be correct.

I would have thought it would be 16 05 08* (or 16 06 08) or 16 05 09 depending on how much caustic and methanol are present.

I see https://consult.environment-agency.gov.uk/psc/me19-4pn-bioconstruct-newenergy-ltd/supporting_documents/HC163906%20List%20of%20Waste%20Codes%20Final%20v1.1.pdf suggests 07 01 08* but for non-waste vegetable oils however could be applied to waste veg oil also.

I would have thought:

19 02 08 liquid combustible wastes containing hazardous substances
19 02 09 solid combustible wastes containing hazardous substances

19 02 subchapter is "wastes from physico/chemical treatments of waste (including dechromatation, decyanidation, neutralisation)"

I saw that one too, if it wasn't for the "non-waste vegetable oils" bit, it would be ideal.

The description I saw for 07 01 08* was "other still bottoms and reaction residues", it was only that Blaise Biogas AD facility that put the "non-waste vegetable oils" comment in as far as I can see - hence my comment about aplying it to waste vegetable oils.  Either way round it is still a reaction residue.

Well spotted - if you go directly to the UK regs:

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2005/895/schedule/1/made

7 WASTES FROM ORGANIC CHEMICAL PROCESSES
07 01 wastes from the manufacture, formulation, supply and use (MFSU) of basicorganic chemicals
07 01 08* other still bottoms and reaction residues

Thanks for the help guys, with a bit of luck I think I've sorted it.
