Title: Lift pump.
Post by: Julian on December 31, 2021, 04:40:08 PM
Thinking of replacing the mechanical lift pump on the Discovery (300Tdi) with an electric one.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a suitable unit?

I've only had experience, years ago, of one electric pump and I have memory's of the thing sounding like a slow speed hammer drill ... don't want that again.

Edit ... It obviously needs to be suitable for bio.

Is there any particular reason why you want to change the pump ?

Had a couple fail over the years due to damage to the the diaphragm from bio.  Once the diaphragm goes it's possible fuel can find it's way into the sump, especially on an old pump.  Added to that an electric pump will prime the system after a filter change without having to crank the engine.

Makes sense.
And you can always carry a spare should it fail. Easy fix.

I've had a couple of these cheap pumps that haven't been used much but have been ok so far and run quite quiet.

And I know someone who has a fitted a pump like this one to his old mercedes that seems ok too.

Or look through the pumps and message and ask about noise and compatability.
