Title: VW to make diesels that use biodiesel!
Post by: Bill on December 18, 2021, 08:06:52 AM
Just came across this headline 'Volkswagen praises 'sensible' decision to commit to diesel vehicles with new biofuel'
Don't know the detail yet. Might it give home brew Bio a kickstart?

Where did you come across that - got a reference?
My Audi is diesel and the handbook gives details to running it on Bio - but then its a 2000 model.

Only problem with VW running on Bio is you’ll have to buy a new one.

What a few years for them to become second hand sales

The fuel referred to in this is HVO diesel which is synthesised by a hydrogenisation of vegetable oils process.  From my limited knowledge it's not the same as the FAME type of diesel that we can make in a shed at home.  Would appreciate some input from the industrial chemists on here as to whether or not these new vehicles can run on our home made jungle juice. Is it similar to our bio or something completely different?

HVO is closer to dino diesel than bio diesel in that it is devoid of the ester grouping found in Bio and also I believe fully saturated like Octane, Cetane, etc.
