We have spent a lot of time deliberating over having the BBB this year what with all this covid bollox, the issue is that myself, Lynda and family don't believe the 'official virus narrative' and we are not willing to take the 'experimental vaccine' but we know a lot of people do believe the official narrative and some see us "unclean conspiracy theorists"
So with that in mind we have decided that we are going to go ahead but respectfully ask that if you are wishing to come there will be a ban on any talk of covid on site to save any disagreements.
So if you can withhold your covid views and don't mind embracing us "unclean" folk you are more than welcome. ;D
-
I'm definitely unclean, but that's nowt to do with C-19 :D
Would love to see folk this year - it has been too long.
-
I'm sure I've read that wrong Chug. Looks like you're saying that "official covid narrative" is not to be discussed/banned but "unclean conspiracy theorists narrative" is just fine!
-
No you didn't read it wrong Nige, I got it wrong, I have edited the post to read correctly now, but basically it means no covid talk of any kind, official narrative or otherwise. ;D
I knew I wouldn't be able to keep quiet if it got mentioned and as I have strong views Lynda could see it ending up with people being kicked off site, thus our long debates about going ahead or not has ended with this compromise.
-
and it's the first weekend in July 2nd/3rd/4th :P
-
Probably a very wise move. Some passionate people on both sides.
Kinda difficult to police I fear.

Kinda difficult to police I fear.
It a bit like religion and politics, but we manage to keep away from that ok.
-
That maybe so Mark...but covid/lockdowns/vaccinations and how the elected government has handled the situation is the only thing people want/have to talk about.
I'll wager the camp fire chat does not get past an hour before its the only topic. There will be some who have a pent up anger and a need to spread their views.
-
If people cannot keep their views to them selves then they better not come or they will be going home early!
We arrived at this decision to try and have a fun weekend where we unite as one and put our different opinions to one side.
-
I totally agree Chug. I can't really understand why some views seem to be so strong. We just need a nice smooth weekend.
-
The thing is Dave...there are a lot of people out there with an agenda to push. Some folk just cant help pushing it. Eh hum!
Let's hope that the BBB is free of it.
-
I have lots of controversial views, ie pizza is merely Greek cheese on toast...... cats the other white meat..... Petrol is better than diesel...... ;D :D
but really people we are all adults we can put our differences to one side for a bit of banter and technical talk as well as a few drinks and some food cooked on the fire.... Which has been great last couple of years BTW.
-
I think, Arash..that Pizza is American cheese on toast!
-
I think, Arash..that Pizza is American cheese on toast!
Beg to differ, early evidence suggests Greek and even Persian origin... ;D I an expert on the subject as I watched a youtube video about it hahahaha
-
Utube....the fountain of all knowledge.
-
As we're quite a diverse bunch that operate a little outside most social normals, I would like to think that we can accommodate views that differ from our own more than many other gatherings of people.
Except flash evaporators. I'm looking at you jamesrl.

Fair play to him though for taking it in his stride. It was the wellies that really set the ensemble off.

Don't forget the lippy and Gerry next to him.
It seems like so many years ago now.
We'll be raising a few glasses to Gerry this year that's for sure.

Nothing to see here, move along now Sony.
And in anyway if you're such a don't care bunch what anybody thinks or wears why go on about dear Gerry's and my choice of weekend wear?

Got some swaps and trades etc, as usual.
Swap for any wvo than can pour!
1. Citric acid powder, food grade, for the very easy de-rusting of things.
Just bought a 25 Kg sack, as it worked out just @£2 per Kg.
I want to keep 10 Kg and decant it into a paint tub, so 15 Kg is going spare.
2. BassAddict's fuelling station.
Bought it off him when he went electric about 3 years ago but I've never used it. Comprises a 205 clamp top drum, TAM105 pump, copper and PEX pipes, proper fuel dispenser hose and trigger, remote power switch etc. Find the thread for more detail.
3. Industrial quality, single phase MIG welders:
Got a couple of 80s and 90s good quality machines. I do a lot of refurb. work on MIG welders these days. POA, as they say...

Nice one, Rich.
Any liquid veg. for bio making is fine by me.
So that's 10 Kg for you and 5 Kg for Ian.
Bring rusty tools etc. and a couple of buckets and we can have a 'live demo'?

The mrs picked up a load of old rusty garden tools, some well past help so I'll put some in, will be down late Saturday morning just for the day.

I already have your rusty/crusty tools set aside hahaha Got a case full of spanners etc..
-
Arash, I've also got that e-bike motor controller for you, if you still want it?
-
Nige, are your chaps doing a chemical run this year?
-
While we are on the subject of chems Nige, with the recent ridiculous prices on methanol presumably Chempac are doing a competitive alternative in reclaimed.
A quote for 1000 litres of your finest please Nige + 3 bags of KOH.
-
Hi Dave. We dont do reclaimed. Never have and the boss wont have it in the unit.
We supply some of the speedway boys. They have used reclaimed unknowingly and it fucked their engines. Tried to blame us. Never having stocked it and buying from a reputable source..Brentag/Tennants and the like...we told them it was nothing to do with us.
-
Julian...chemical delivery is down to demand. If its worth us coming down..we will
-
Chug, the roaster is now ready for cooking kabab (or will be), so don't stress about knocking something together.
Don't worry guys, it's still setup for the Saturday roast ;)
-
Julian...chemical delivery is down to demand. If its worth us coming down..we will
I'd go for a barrel of methanol if there's sufficient demand from others.
-
I would have methanol to if it makes the order up
-
3x KOH for me Nige, cheers. Could you put a price list up if you are coming, thanks.
-
I'll put a list up on Monday. The boss is away at the mo. Prepare yourselves for a surprise price. Methanol has gone through the roof lately. :-\
-
PD1..are you up for a barrel (200lts) of methanol.
We need to make it worth our while.
-
Come October - the flawed, crap ULEZ extension impacts.
No regular oil and no meth left means I'm done here.
But I may have an exempt, classic WVO runner finished by 2023.

I didn't think there was an exemption for classics.
I know some of the London to Brighton runs have had to start outside the ULEZ due to charges.

Copied from Tfl site:
Historic vehicles
You can apply to stop paying vehicle tax if your vehicle was built more than 40 years ago. This date moves forward on a 40-year rolling system. For example, when the ULEZ launched in April 2019, vehicles built before 1979 were eligible to apply for historic vehicle tax class.
All vehicles that have a historic vehicle tax class will be exempt from the ULEZ. This tax class excludes any vehicle used commercially (for example, coffee vans or street food vans).
In line with the existing LEZ discount all vehicles constructed before 1 January 1973 will be exempt from the ULEZ, regardless of commercial use or otherwise.
-
I need a bag of KOH. Maybe Meth depending on price. I'm using reclaimed at the moment that I got cheap from a bio place shutting down last year. Sometimes takes three stages to get a clear pass.
-
BBB chems..
Methanol...£144
KOH............£41.50
I did say that methanol had increased. Let me know if theres any thing else
-
4x bags KOH for me please Nige.
TBH for a 200 litre drum, taking into account the recent methanol price rise your price is quite reasonabe. Sidwill are £155 Plus carraige, making it about £1.05/litre Who would have thought it!
-
Is that inclusive of vat Nige?
-
Yes it is Tony.

Don't tell him that ... he'll put the price up!
-
I would be nice to see some commitment on the methanol.
We wont come down for 4 bags of KOH.

I'll take a barrel of methanol if you're coming down ... just no sure if you're coming down!
Can you make it a metal barrel or a plastic one with a lip, so I can use a chain sling to get it in the car please?
-
Noted.
Tony and Dolphin....??
Same with PD1...?
-
Hi Nigel, I can commit to the KOH but I'll leave the Methanol for now (though the price is fair, I hope by the time I need some more it will have dropped a bit).
-
The price of methanol is only going one way at the mo.
We really need 4 barrels to make it worth our while.
-
Nigel can you do me 200 litres in 25 litrer containers.
-
400lts of methanol and 5 x 25kg KOH so far.
-
Nige, what's the deal on meth 25s, as Oakwood requested?
If it's not viable, I could go halves on a 205 with someone else wanting 100L and decant.
-
Meth in 25's is a tricky one. PM incoming.
-
If 25s are a problem a 200 drum is OK Nigel.
-
Rich...the 25's sre not a problem. I assume you have read the PM.
-
I will be there at the bash on my own, No minder as Edward can not make it.
May need a nurse or helper volunteers required.
Will bring supplies for the canon.
I have lots of copper pipe fittings and ball valves barter or swaps.
-

Any chance we could make use os some of those fittings for the shower (if needed).
-
No problem what do you want.
-
My son had a Duke of Edinburgh training session over the BBB weekend and was gutted that he couldn't come with me.
Just now had a letter from the school that they have had to cancel, he is over the moon!
-
No problem what do you want.
Not sure yet, it depends how we bodge it together 😄
-
Give us I clue 15mm 22mm 28mm straights bends tees.
-
I've got 15 mm plastic pipe, if you need it, Mark.

Dgs .......4 x 25kg KOH
Dolphin..1x 25kg KOH
Tony...... 1 x 25kg KOH
PD1........1 x 25kg KOH
Have I missed anybody or any goods out?
-
That's good for me thanks
-
Thanks Nige,
Sorry to be a pain but could I up to 6 x 25?
-
Yep. Noted.
-
Nige, what's the smallest sulfuric acid qty you can do? May be interested if someone at work wants to share.
-
It depends on what grade of sulphuric you want. Is it 96% or one of the battery acids. They normally come as an SG rating ratherr than a %
-
The 96% please.
-
Yep. Noted.
Great, thanks Nige.
Are you nearby to Wigston, per chance?
-
Work us about 4 miles away. My house is 6 miles east.
-
Just caught up on the thread , please put me down for 200 methanol and a bag of KOH please , looking forward to meeting you all .
-

OK thanks Nige.
You'll have guessed that was a potential Ebay item 'forum relay' enquiry...
-
If you win....i'll pick up.
-
Cheers Nige, great stuff.
-
Can all those who a taking advantage of the chemical delivery on Saturday please make provisions for payment before the day. You can pay via bacs or you can use your credit or debit card using the office card machine. Let me know which you prefer.

-
Looks like I should be able to come on Saturday night now as the retirement do has been cancelled, I still have to work and dont finish until 8pm but could be there about 8 30 ish , is this too late to turn up ? Understand if it is and I’ll just come on the Sunday.
Chug could you send me the address please
As I have ordered some methanol I’m wondering what will be the best way to get it in the van , should I bring an empty barrel to decant half then manhandle it in or do you clever chaps have an easier method for moving the barrels
Paul
-
Yes 8pm is ok to turn up and I'll PM details to you.
-
Chug, can PM me your details as well please, Ben’s making his own way there and can’t remember the route
-
I've got a work related meeting with Hamble Lifeboat at 5pm Friday so expect to be up for about 8pm. Looking forward to it!
-
Julian....20lts of 96% will be £30.
-
I've got two Chubb 2kg powder fire extiguishers, my mum has had them for years and wants them gone. The pressure guages still shows in the green. if anyone is interested I'll bring them down.
-
Are we, uh, bringing gamblin' oil this year?
If so we'll need a deck of cards, some washers, stable ground beneath the area I'm sitting in and an agreement on which way gravity operates.
-
Picking up the kebab, pittas's, naan's, chilli sauce, garlic sauce on thursday evening, nom, nom, nom 8)
I saw the gamblin washers somewhere the other day, will dig em out tomorrow.
-
I wanna gamble but got no oil... can I bring 10l of svo?
-
stable ground beneath the area I'm sitting in and an agreement on which way gravity operates.
Vin's not been for two years, so it's BYO Absinthe / mescaline / petrol. :)
-
I wanna gamble but got no oil... can I bring 10l of svo?
No mate, it has to be converted to wvo.
So you've just got to deep fat fry chips for everyone. :)
-
Are we also boiling/roasting some spuds or something to go with the lamb? I'm bringing 3 of my fussy kids.
-

I've got WVO but nothing to put it in. Bags perhaps? Can't see how that would go wrong. :D
Are we also boiling/roasting some spuds or something to go with the lamb? I'm bringing 3 of my fussy kids.
There's always a fire going so addition of wrapped spuds or a pot with boiling water in, whenever you fancy really. Get the kids on spud duty.
-

Can’t do roasties while cooking the kabab so it’ll have to be boiled or jakets
-
We might not be there until after 6pm Sat but I can get some spuds. Let me know for how many people. We would probably eat at 1am if the kids are doing the peeling.
-
Mark how much weight can the roaster handle? I might get 2 1-1.5kg legs of lamb instead of 1 big one.
-

Thumb up:-
-
Mahli's been a star 8) she took a few days off this week and has been helping me up the field, and we've got just about everything sorted, all grass cut and weeds strimmed, loo bales refreshed, pool up and filled and burner checked and test ran, main gazebo up, two other smaller gazebos upish, fridges tested and cleaned, tarps on standby for any wetness, a few little jobs to do in the morning and we should be ready :D
-
Thank you for all your hard work, we do appreciate you putting this weekend on each year.
This is why me and Ben try to turn up with something new/interesting each year, it's our way of giving back to you and everyone else that turns up.
-
A bit late I know, but Ben would like some gly to have a go at making glylogs, can anyone bring some for him.
Got some gloopy Na/K based.
As have many others... don't want a glyc over-load though, as glog experiments don't need much.
-
Dom and I are looking forward to it!

Seconded!
Good Stuff, Mark.
Chug you're too modest. Remind folk that they can donate (in some form) for the hard work and expenses, preparing for the event?
Not my place to suggest a fiver/PP seems now outdated.
-
Dom and I are looking forward to it!
Like excited kids if your anything like me and Ben.
Cannot understand you I am only coming down out of habit.
-
Thanks for all the hard work Chug. Much appreciated. All my kids talk about is the heated pool.
Cheers,
Dan
-
Anyone got 3x empty cubies they can bring (or any containers 20l-25l)? I want to bring 20l for the host, 20l stake for me, 20l stake for Dom for the evening cards but I have nothing other than 20l tins without their caps! Just done a tour of local car washes to no avail. I can bring something to decant from, however - if I can get my hands on some cubies.
-
Ive got three I can bring along Tony. I'll put them in my car now..
-
Hi All , I hope you are having a great time, I’m hoping to get there about 10:30 tomorrow, hopefully I will get to meet some of the you before you go home , I’m coming in a VW transporter and just trying to work out the best way to get the 2 barrels of methanol in , I was thinking maybe a couple of scaffold boards and roll them up ?! Or maybe bring a couple of empty ones so I can decant , what do you guys think ?
Paul
-
A couple of scaffold boards would do the trick.... along with a few guys in the field.
-
Thanks Nigel , just need to find some willing volunteers! Am
I right in thinking you are not going to be there ?
-
I was there for a couple of hours yesterday Paul. I wasnt able to stop any longer...prior commitments ya see. Sorry I couldnt stay longer.
I was great to see so many old friends.
I was really pleased when talking to Linda when she mentioned that planning had finally been granted on the field. Im sure whatever they build will be awesome.
-
Thanks to Chug, Lynda and Mahli for putting on yet another fantastic BBB.
Good to see a few new faces this year.
PD1 sorry I didn't get chance to speak with you, next year maybe.
Is there a way of posting photos on here ?
-
Big thank you to Chug, Lynda and Mahli for hosting a superb BBB.
Good food good company all added up to a wonderful weekend.
-
Dom and I both have welding rash and love it. Food was flippin' brilliant.
Dom has been recounting how much he loves Chug's stories, particularly the one about the electric company and the bit about "of course the bloke's got an attitude". ;D
But best of all so very good to see some old familiar faces, it has been far too long - and to see some new ones too.
Nige we got the drums into PD1's van no problem, and I will sort out paying for the KOH shortly.
Mark have you tried signing up for https://imgur.com/ ? I will upload my photos as well.
You can share as "Hidden" once uploaded so they aren't public, or just directly link the images.

Nice chatting with everyone else too
Thanks to Chug and team for organising it all , will hopefully be able to make the next one
Paul
-
Huge thanks to Chug, Linda and Mahli and every one else who helped out to make the weekend.
The kids loved it and are still talking about it.
I know some of you guys were interested in the welder I brought along and if any one wants to get it these are the guys that sell it:
https://unionmart.co.uk/product-category/welders/
they also sell them on ebay but its a fiver more. They also list a 160amp version for another £10!
If you have any pics please shatre them as I forgot to take any of my kids hahahahaha
-
As always, thank you Chug, Lynda and Mahli, cooks, food donators Et Al, for all the effort which went into making this years BBB so enjoyable.
Already looking forward to next year,

I'm flattered Chug, but I enjoy challenge and it's my way of giving back to you for inviting us rabble every year.

Ive got three I can bring along Tony. I'll put them in my car now..
I meant to post here and say thanks for bringing those. We didn't get to gambling oil in the end so my drums went home with pyro Steve who was running short on oil, and one for oil donation for our host.
I went skip-diving at the carwash two nights ago (with their prior permission from a couple of weeks before) and have increased my 25l drum collection.
BTW your KOH is much better than my previous bag from I think an Amazon/eBay seller. Dissolves much more quickly and easily and I'm getting easy clear passes on the 3/27 with my reclaimed meth, that I was previously blaming for incomplete conversions!

I wonder if its the purity that makes it easier to use. Or maybe the country of origin? Either way I'm pleased that you are pleased.😁

I meant to post this earlier, but think it's still worth saying now.
I'm happy to say that everyone respected our hosts requested "ban on any talk of covid on site to save any disagreements".
Inevitably, I did hear covid mentioned, but only in passing, it just goes to show that the biggest disruption in many years still cannot dampen the BBB spirit.
In fact I feel that the whole weekend was a chance for all to forget about it, kick back and enjoy good company.
Well done all.

Well said, and any discussion on the subject was respectful of differing opinions - which is how it should be.
