Title: Octavia 1.9 ASV turbo removal time

Need to swap out my turbo and wondered if anyone knows how easy this job is? Can I do it from above? I think if I remove the intake manifold it looks like it frees up space to get the turbo and manifold out...........................................

Yes can be done from above.
Inlet manifold off. (Allen keys)
Oil feed (likely to break, will need replacing) I used a flexible one.

(Underneath)
Down pipe off,
Oil drain off,

May need driver side inner arch off to get to the pipe to the intercooler off.

Unbolt exhaust manifold and it will come out the top.

Get genuine or second hand, I've had two cheap recon ones and both failed, one in 1000 miles (London turbos)
Make sure you prime the turbo with oil.

If you fit a recon, warranty will be void if you fit it yourself.

Hello mate,

Got it out exactly how you said. Inlet manifold allen bolts were a real pain as someone had obviously been at them before :(

You are spot on about the oil feed pipe, I ended up hacksawing it as it was kinked. What flexible one did you use, braided line?

That's not good news about recon turbos, was just trying to order one from Precision Turbos in Birmingham who's name popped up on Briskoda. I didn't know about the warranty void if DIY, how stupid!! I'll definitely ask them about that.

I'm a little concerned about the state of a second hand one and a new is almost out of the question with funds and also with ULEZ probably coming in in a few months, really don't want to spend stupid money on this.........................

Just don't do what I did, block the oil return pipe with a scrap of rag to stop dirt getting into it, then fit the new turbo without removing the rag scrap.
