hi all, new on here but not really new on running veg. I have a vw 1.9d T4 that i use 60ish % of time on neat veg (when special offers in supermarkets come up)
so my question is iv just got a 2004 ford ranger 2.5td crew cab.....i would like to introduce it to veg, and iv searched internet and cant get any answers if its been done.
honesty dont know what engine model it is, but it shares same engine as mazda b2500, possibly bongo too.
i dont want to twin tank it or lay out any cost to run it, as that would defeat the object in the short term, and take longer to re coup than i possibly plan to keep it for.
so will it?
thanks all
great site too
dam dint realise id also put post in biodeisel too !!! sorry

Hi, welcome to the wiki and forum.
I've just deleted the post in the biodiesel section.
Running veg isn't my area of excellance so I can't help with your question, but I'm sure someone will be along who can.
An alternative would be to make bio. That'll run in pretty much any diesel without any modifications.

got a couple of loose acquaintances who run that engine on veg, but i wouldnt know what percentage and what fuel pump set up they have.
-
well tried it on a rough 50/50 mix, so far all is good, only done 20 odd miles, so time will tell
-
Trouble is, it doesn't really work like that. There are loads of motors that will run for a good amount of time on single tanks, but still end in tears, and some that, with care, should run forever. You need to properly know which class your motor falls into, otherwise youre really just chancing it.
Again, just because it runs, doesnt really mean much as far as longevity goes.
-
that in all fairness makes no sense
its like saying the world will come to an end, yeah we kinda know, but how?
so
You need to properly know which class your motor falls into...... explain what you mean by class?
and some that, with care, should run forever......as in regular fuel filter changes? regular servicing?
and finally
There are loads of motors that will run for a good amount of time on single tanks, but still end in tears.....just like every vehicle on the road then?
currently my truck is showing no signs of issues, the fuel filter will be changed every 6 months as thats what i do with my VW, and had no issues with that only during winter when i add diesel to the oil.
the fuel pump is known for working with differing fuels,
cheers

well is it single tank, twin tank, vegger or bio bus.

thats a very over simplified view. does it need a FPHE, does it need an eckes type heater, will i need to blend, how tolerant is the pump to badly dewatered veg. the parameters of "with care" change from motor to motor. but thanks for reminding me to change my oil this year. i forgot to do it since before last summer, so only about 30,000 miles......

no actually. the key part of this is "a good amount of time". mine will last forever on a single tank. julian`s wont. thats at 100%. blend and the story changes.

if you get 6 months out of your first three filters, i will eat my own testicles and you should actually add petrol in winter.
but what the hell would i know. i`ve only done over 350,000 miles on 100% waste oil.
good luck.

now you've turned into a cock....thanks for that, i would have thought with all your "years" under your belt you could have been clearer, and generally more helpful from the start, instead of trying to belittle my question as to if my truck would or wouldn't.
the simple answers were given to me before you came in.
my truck is standard, it has one fuel tank, its not common rail.
im using veg oil bought via supermarkets et al, not bio, or used.
Had you asked me the questions, instead of being a nob jockey and riding the post, you may very well have been a helpful bloke.
guess not
if this is the standard to which this forum takes, there really isn't any wonder the general public veer away from the petrol stations.
thanks

no not really, because you didnt give any answers just gibberish, if you had read my initial post, it gave you the basic info as to what i had and what i wanted, then you bopped in and wanted to know what id already put, and made it into an argument.
-
actually, it was julian who asked the questions.
then you asked for an explanation as to what he meant
i gave you the explanation
next thing theres teddies in the lampshade and dummies in the cats dinner.
read the thread back and look at the names who posted....
so, to clarify, it was julian who bopped, not me.
im far too tired to bop.
best wishes.
-
correct, my apologies. tired eyes.
i did see you actually did give me a good response with that a couple of your loose acquaintances ran a mix
lol my teddies have been long gone
cheers tho

Bloody 'ell has Ged been secretly abducted by aliens and replaced? Going to have to start calling him Ambassador Ged at this rate.
My cat isn't that bright either, he's thrown up worse things than dummies (usually loudly, in the middle of the night - I'm woken to what my sleep-addled brain initially assumes is the central heating system backfiring).
Welcome to the forum, by the way.

I've been running one of these 2004 plate on veg for 18 months . I put one of the heated Bosch type off Biotuning ( who seem to have stopped trading!) filters on it and ran that off the EGR cooler pipes after blanking the EGR. It won't run as much % of veg as my old Xantia, it stutters when you put the gas on, say coming off a roundabout, so it needs more DERV to keep it happy . I run it about 60v/40d. I'm happy .
