Title: jet fusion reactor
Post by: photoman290 on May 21, 2017, 01:23:21 PM
went on a open day to see jet yesterday. they have some nice kit there! it is in shutdown at the moment so got to go to  parts not normally open.  well worth a visit for all you high power geeks out there. it was a bit hectic as there where a lot of peole ,around 60 or so in several  groups of about 10. would have liked to  have spent  more time there, but still worth a visit. the tour lasts about 2 1/2 hours. i do have a contact who works there so may get a longer visit sometime, if we can convince the H and S people we are not going do anything stupid. look up there power supplies if you are impressed by  big science.

yes iter is the next stage and will be a lot bigger. as there are 7 countries payrolling it i can understand the big money. think the budget is around 16billion so far. being a sparky you will appreciate the power side of jet 1.5 gigawatts available with there own dedicated 400kv feed. they wouldn't let us near that though. they can pull 575 megawatts from the grid with 2 400 megawatt flywheels as back up when they are doing an experiment. there leccy bill is 1.5 million a year.

Cor.  One of them flywheels carries enough energy to heat 53 IBCs of oil from 20C to 60C.

Can I get one and economy 7 fitted :D

Or a really large hamster.
