I noticed yesterday that the oil wasn't heating as quickly as I'd expect, and the heater was only drawing 2kW. I put it down to some voltage droop on the supply.
Today the immersion wouldn't come on. I thought the element had burned out so probed it - and it was fine. Plugged it in and it started drawing 1.5kW. Very odd.
Then it stopped.
Eventually figured out it was the SSR, which looked fine and was properly heatsinked in place. Swapped that out and it's fine again.
I guess I expected SSR failures to either involve a loud bang or at least some other form of violence, but this one looks fine.
Crydom it is, made in the USA. Done me many years of service, that's for sure!
