Title: Whats Happening on here?
Post by: dgs on September 27, 2016, 11:56:40 AM
Whats happening guys? Never known it so quiet on here. Have you all gone over to using pump diesel or something?

Probably now ones had a disaster and a lack of new starters.

When pump derv up to £1.50 a ltr we may have a bit more traffic.

What he said.

I'm on my 197th batch and much of the magic of making usable fuel from rancid cooking waste has evaporated.  I still have thoughts on trying to improving the process, but it's all become rather run of the mill .... something you have do do if you want to run a vehicle on a budget.

Is it this quiet on the other forums?

We appear to get the slightly more visitors than a year or so ago, 33 so far today at 1:00 pm (not sure if that's just the forum or includes the wiki)  ... it used to be an average of around 20/day, it just looks like most visitors don't post.  I'll see if I can find the stats information ... (we lost access to it in the hosting move).

Hmmm!

Can't find anything in admin except page tracking which isn't quite what we want besides it requires "stats" to be enabled and I can't see where to enable that!

The host offers three site analysis tool, one of which they say supports wikimedia, but it requires setting up which, although it looks like it's a click of a button, I'm reluctant to do in case it/I screw things up!  Can any other admin assist?

I'm a bit behind you Julian, probably around the 120 batches, but I'm still very interested in the process and little ways I can 'tweak' things to be more efficient.

Over the last few batches I have been experimenting with a modification of the 5% prewash method, where after adding an amount of glyc and water to the last reaction I pump the mix for about 20 mins then bubble overnight. The last batch I did like this showed only 80ppm soap before I transferred it to the wash tank.

I'm also trying different ratio's of the 10/90 in an attempt to create a ratio that is more accurate so there are less mono's left in the bio. I will start some new threads when I've done more tests.

Post up any experiments you do, Dave ... if you don't get responses it doesn't mean no one's interested.  I read absolutely everything posted on here and I'm sure others do too.  One reason I don't respond to chemistry related posts is that after years of playing this game, that side of things is still a black art to me.

One thing I'd like to improve/speed up is demeth time.  Some means of getting a greater flow round the vapor circuit would be a big step forward in my eyes.

I still read a bit, but just haven't got the time to get involved with a thread these days.
It's not just about one reply, sometimes a thread can go on for days, so I just don't start.
Add to that, my internet connection is pretty unreliable and slow, and I just don't get on forums like I used to.

I'm sure you are correct.

There are probably over 10 times the people running veg and making bio than are members on the 2 forums. I remember looking in on this forum years ago thinking I would love to post on here but was nervous because I didn't know enough about the subject.

Got it wrong again thinking you wanted any argument not a bio related argument.

How things have moved on, Dave. Now you're up there with the top innovators, if not the 'numero uno', these days.

It was noted that Keith didn't do the BBB this year. :(

Right then may be a discussion not an  argument yet but is spontaneous combustion a fact or fiction.

I have tried to get oily rags to ignite with no success tried with different amounts of oil bio and glycerol.

Have taken the temperature and have not noticed any significant rise.

I think the warnings of not leaving oily rags about is wrong.

I did if you remember ... an adjustable one (think you were very nearly complimentary about it) and it no, it didn't work.

But I've got some cunning ideas up my sleeve ...

i disagree. a friend was treating the poles of a yurt with linseed oil, can't remember if it was boiled or not, and put the oil and rags ina cupboard under the stairs. about midnight there was commotion and lots of smoke from next door. she came out with a box of smoking rags that then caught fire.

Thanks Keef,
it saves me finding the thread again. What with that and the M67 runaway our hay barn has been a little lucky over the years.

I don't use the M67 as often nowadays, the experiance has left me a little nervous!

I don't know about that but thanks anyway. The recent 10/90 variations I have been doing have brought to light an astonishing anomoly which I will report in a couple of days when I have finished all the tests.
