The boiler I'm using for the hot tub is not starting up, everything seems to be as it should but still no go, I hope to have a look at it over the next few weeks but I'm thinking we may need to find another heat source? maybe an M67 again if anyone can bring one??
But I have another working electro oil burner that might fit the boiler only I'm not sure if the thermostat is compatible so it will just run until it's turned off if not, but its a possibility.
-
I had problems with my boiler. It turned out to be the pressure adjustment valve. On mine there was a composite rubber diaphragm which the bio ate. I made a metal replacement for the valve and it is now fine.
-
Are you getting atomisation of the fuel chug? There could be many reasons why it wont start. Dampness on the HT cables, corrosion between one or both electrodes and the blast tube shorting out the arc, crud on the sintered filter on the back of the nozzle (I get that a few times a year with the pool boiler), clogged filter in the oil pump itself, degraded rubber components as Dick says.
You need to be methodical when trouble shooting.
Is motor turning?
Is fan and pump turning?
Is fuel available at the bleed port?
Is fuel coming out of the nozzle? If so, is it a fine mist (good) or more of a jet (bad)
Is there an arc at the electrodes?
If so, is it being projected forward in front of the nozzle by the air flow or just a small intense arc that is nowhere near the fuel mist?
-
I'm sure I can fit the M67 and drum into the car, might be the only thing we bring! Trouble is that magnet pump we used for circulation before I've given away to a friend to keep his fish alive in an outside pond. Any pumpophiles have a small, suitable (quiet) pump?
-
'course we do ... I'll dig out a Mono MS (about 17 ltrs/min I think) and check it works. If it's OK I'm happy to lend it to the cause.

I'm happy to pick it up before the BBB and bring it along on Friday if that helps.
-
Will also need inlet and outlet barbs suitable for garden hose!
-
I have a CH pump all rigged up with pipes etc that we usually use with it so no problem there.
The burner is doing everything it should, motor, fan run etc and fuel mists out the nozzle and it sparks but no flame, I hope to take it out and have a good look one evening this coming week weather permitting.
If it comes to needing Tony's M67 then just the burner is needed as we can sort a drum out.
-
Chug, have you tried igniting the mist with a blowlamp or similar?

Ah yep and heat exchanger coil again, I saw how manky the water was in the drum the M67 occupied, wouldn't do good things to the pool plastic I'm sure
-
Jules, My next trick is to try it with a blow torch, I got as far last time as tying a diesel soaked rag on a stick but it really started pissing down with rain and I couldn't light it so I gave up.
Do you still have the HX coil Tony?
-
Yes, got the coil, need to check I've got all the jubilee clips and some hose , don't think we need much more. Maybe pool lighting again :)
-
Do we need bio.
-
I've got 20 litres of red diesel to bring for the M67.
-
I guess the usual arrangement, bring flammables for the M67, bio preferred just because the exhaust smells nicer and it burns cleaner, doesn't have to be great bio, any old soapy crap will do!
-
If I get the processor up and running in time will do a batch.
-
If I'm to get into the tub this year I want lots of bubbles as well as heat and lights.
Oh ye', and a canopy, don't want to get wet if it rains while I'm in there.
-
Oh ye', and a canopy, don't want to get wet if it rains while I'm in there.
Hahaha
I recall it being rather pleasant being hot in the tub while it rained :)
Are we going to try and chlorinate it this year to stop it going murky (as much as such a thing is possible when used by manky biodiesellers)?

I think that's a very good idea.
I had a very pleasant hour or three in there last year while those with a gambling addiction fought over a couple of cubies of oil, but I have to say it smelt rather rank before I got in.
If we want bubbles, do I need to bring my whisper quiet blower again? It did rather spoil the tranquility of the experience last year!
-
I'M NOT manky, the mrs reckons I'm skanky.
If bubbles are too noisy what about hot water jets?

That too is probably your department.

I can bring some chlorine granules - have them for my pool so I can bring up half a kilogram or so, which will be plenty for the weekend
I also have some pH plus which lifts the pH if the water is too acidic (which burns off chlorine quickly) and some test strips.
Having chlorine in before anybody gets in there is likely to keep the water a lot cleaner and biologically safer
-
I think Jules is probably the only person amongst us that knows how to balance and maintain a pool, as illustrated above - I think we should just go with what he says :)
-
Nice one Jules, but Lynda bought 1kg tub of stabilised chlorine granules recently so we should be ok, but the PH test would be handy.
Going up the field tonight to cut the growing stuff back and hope to tinker with the burner too, weather permitting.
-
No probs - will just bring pH plus and the three way testing strips then
Do you have a filter for the pump loop? Having one makes a massive difference. If not, I have one of these knocking around
(http://guideimg.alibaba.com/images/shop/2015/07/01/79/bestway-530-gph-flowclear-above-ground-filter-pump-with-cartridge-58276e_5700679.jpeg)
It came with the pool but not needed as I have a big 300lpm one and a sand filter on mine, like this one
(http://www.theswimmingpoolstore.co.uk/media/descriptions/55c9609a5a559-aquaspeed_1.jpg)
Will just need some 1" hose to connect the pump to the fittings on the side of the pool
-
what make is the first one mate? and what filters does it take?
-
It's a Bestway 58145, like this one
330 gallons (1250 litres) per hour.
http://www.splashandrelax.co.uk/products/Pool+Accessories/Pool+Pumps+%26+Counter+Current/Bestway+330+Gallon+Pool+Filter+Pump/1063212840?gclid=CPbIlO3os80CFesW0wodNg0Gvw
I also have the 58145NL which is the same pump but with a low voltage motor and inline transformer rather than mains voltage motor. That is probably the best one for the BBB as it keeps the mains well away from poolside.
It takes the Bestway 58093 filter cartridge, like these
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bestway-3-5-inch-Filter-Cartridge-58093/dp/B002848J5Y
The pump is no use to me so happy to donate it to the BBB hot tub project. I will also supply a couple of new filter cartridges and some hoses if I can find them
-
I had a look at the burner in between showers and it's not playing ball, I suspect the controller and I may have another that fits so I will dig it out and see, otherwise I'm gonna get my electro oil burner and see if that will fit into the boiler casing. Also scanning ebay for cheap replacement, I'm watching one in Devizes ATM......... Vin?
-
I now have two brand new filter elements for the Bestway pump and have managed to find some 1 1/4" hoses and clips knocking around so I will being that up and donate to Chug for this year and years to come. That should help, along with the Chlorine, to keep the water rather more pleaant
-
Do you need oil or bio to heat the water I will bring some allso will be bringing sawdust ànd pork pies so don't forget your mustard and pickles not long now

I've had pie and chips but never tried pie and sawdust with or without mustard and pickles.

Sounds like the wife's cooking, I only come to the BBB for the food.
-
no problem picking up if you get it, as long as it is before Friday lunchtime

When does it end? Would you like me to bring the M67 and associated gubbins?
-
How much bio will be required for the weekend Tony I have 50 ltrs redly can bring more if wanted.
-
I can't really remember how much we got through last year - but it wasn't quite as much as expected (and we burnt some with that ridiculous DIY syphon nozzle). I remember having to get out of the hot tub to refuel the heater a few times each evening and I think it uses 5l at a time or so, so I image 50l covers a whole weekend?
-
Thats the m67 coved then will want a bit more for Chugs patio heater.
That uses 25ltrs a night.
-
we've spent a busy weekend between the showers getting things ready for next weekend, got a few things to do during the next few days but the main things like grass cutting and strimming and hedgecutting are done.
My boiler uses about 12 -15L fuel a day (if it runs!) to keep the pool toasty warm.
I seem to remember the M67 used a similar amount last year.
Pray for good weather as the field's got pretty waterlogged after being nicely dry for the last few weeks, I will have some tarps on standby!
-
Is the tractor on standby Chug.
-
There'll be the usual Lawn Rovers to pull people out, we may even give Pete a tow in his jap crap.
I'll have my strop and D shackles at the ready, the down side is I've only got road tyres on at present.
-
Have a good rope and shackles on the van not long now.
I mean time to the BBB not the rope.
-
Nice one with the filter Jules, the pool came with a basic filter thing but your one is probably better
Dolphin, we have lots of sawdust, knighty brought two massive bags last year and they are still sat where he left them.
Tractor on standby, but it was nice today and I was up the field getting Mahli's Polo ready for its MOT, she has her driving test on Thurs! and the field is a bit better and the weather this week is not supposed to be too bad and at weekend there is only possible showers on sat from 4 -7pm, so fingers crossed.
But I will know more when I give the grass its final cut on Wed or Thurs
-
For some reason I thought Mahli had passed her test.
Wasn't she driving last year ?
Well wish her luck for me, and good luck with the MOT as well.
-
Thanks for letting me know chug I will bring extra oil instead I do have 20kg of Noah if someone wants to swap for koh
-
I haven't collected together as much firewood as usual, so if anyone has untreated/unpainted, dry wood it might be handy?
-
Fetched a few pallets will saw up and bring down.
-
I'll see if I can get hold of a couple of sacks of off cuts like what we brought last year.
-
I'll ask at work, we have around 25 tones in the waste transfer shed, all nice and dry.
But there's a limit to how much I can get in the car.
-

You've got 2 days left, build a trailer and fill it up.

I have a trailer, but it's full of drums of oil.
Plus I'm towing the caravan to the BBB, and no I can't fill the caravan with wood.
-
and no I can't fill the caravan with wood.
And why not, there'll be people needing cups of tea and cooking fuel y'know, l'm sure 'alf a caravan would be enough.
-
I'll bring what I can.
-
Never doubted you for a minute new you would do the right thing Mark.

He's never done the right thing in his life, did he sit on the airbag lift last year, no, did he make me dress as a woman, yes, see neither was right

For some reason, and I can't quite put my finger on it, I think certain people are tying to butter me up just to get what they wont.
Anyway, I have wood.......................... something you old buggers need a little blue pill for nowadays.
-
Ignore them mark ... remember you can choose who you tow out of the field and who you leave stuck in the quagmire.
I already have a mental note of all those who have slagged off my Land Rover in the past.
-
Sod it, we can just raise above um all, pull everyone out the mud, the warm inner smugness will be worth it.
-
Don't try and get back in their good books by coming over all "holier than thou" it won't work!
Sod 'em, let them fester in the mud.
-
holier than thou, you must have seen my chassis before I got the welder out.
-
Sod it, we can pull everyone off.
Leave it out, there's no way I'm gonna let you pull me off.
For a start you ain't good looking enough, pretty boy Knighty's got more chance than you and he's got no feckin chance.
-
That's called doing a KH.

slightly off topic, but can someone PM me the post code foe chugs field
just like every year I've deleted me old PM's on the veg oil forum and lost it :-(
-
PM sent Alan.
-
slightly off topic, but can someone PM me the post code foe chugs field
How many times have you been there, you should know the way.
We'll give you the post code to your house just before you leave the field, we don't want you getting lost do we.
-
I've been going flat out up the field today and got lots done so we are just about getting there and ready let ya's all in, still a few little things to do tomorrow, but the main thing was it didn't rain and I was able to cut the grass, yee ha!
see you all soon. 8)
-
Did you get the boiler working?
I have two pool pumps, two new cartridge filters, some 1 1/4 pipes and clips and T pieces and will bring some chemical test strips. Also bringing 15 litres of the palm based biodiesel I use for my heating system.
If you are really desperate and cant get any burners working, I could pull the burner from my pool boiler as wont need to heat that for the weekend and bring it up but would prefer not to
-
All loaded up bit of food to throw in tomorrow.
On the down side Vijay owes me a pint that transfer pump is choking me with
diesel fumes.
Hopefully embarking Friday noon.
-
No but I've got my old electro oil burner running of a fashion, well once its fired up it seems fine and it fits ok ish in the boiler, I had a quick look and think we should be able to rig the thermostat as it looks like it just cuts the mains power, so fingers crossed, but it's good we have the M67 on standby.
-
The thermostat does just cut the power to the burner on most of them so easy to rig up
-

after falling on my head, I repeatedly forgot my way home ???

We are on route. M67 and drum *just* fitted in the Passat with some heavy tail gate slamming. Hope I don't need to get at the spare tyre ;D
