Title: Host swap
Post by: Tony on April 26, 2016, 10:04:05 PM
As I'm going to be moving house, biopowered will need to move to a new hosting home.  The hosting is ordered, but the time of transition not really scheduled - it's when we can find time to move the databases and filesystem, and switch the domain DNS over.  It will take a bit of time, during which there will be limited availability.

I'll keep Pete posted on VOD when this is happening.

How much cash do you need for the hosting Tony?

Hi Chug,
What seems to happen is when I log in with my user name and password so I can post, the forum seems to remember me for about 24 hours.

After that I can't post without logging in again ( the quote and reply boxes aren't there so it regards me as a non member just viewing the forum)

This didn't happen before the host change. I haven't had to log in since joining until the host change.

Dave ... if you go to the login button on the menu bar, instead of logging in at the top right of each page, there's a check box which says keep me logged in, or something similar,  Try checking that and then click login.

I was suffering the same problem so have tried this. Hopefully it will work
As I was logged in at the time, I had to press 'logout' on the menu bar first, then 'login'
When I did, the 'keep me logged in' tickbox was there.

Appears to be a big problem on the wiki.

Just went on the wiki for the first time since the host swap and just about all the photos and graphics don't show and are replaced with this text or similar ...

Quote
Error creating thumbnail: convert.x: unable to open image `/home/sites/biopowered.co.uk/public_html/w/images/d/d0/Leo_XKM60.jpg': No such file or directory @ error/blob.c/OpenBlob/2702.
convert.x: no images defined `/tmp/transform_285805fed16d-1.jpg' @ error/convert.c/ConvertImageCommand/3252.

Happens in IE 8, Fire fox on two machines and in Sleipnir.

I think I flagged up a similar problem with the forum linking to photos on the wiki.

In addition if you enter www.biopowered.co.uk into the address bar of all three browsers, nothing happens, just a blank page.  Other addresses within biopowered seem to work.

Tony ... HEEEELP!

EDIT ... Be helpful if others could confirm is not just my set up that's giving trouble ... knowing me that's more than likely!

Hmm.  Definitely needs fixing. I'm sorry to say that I'm a bit (lot!) lax on the site maintenance side of things at the moment, bit thin on enthusiasm and lot overloaded on looking after the family and moving house.  We need someone with some php/mysql/website experience really - or some more time.

Don't worry about it Tony, it'll happen when it happens and not before.

Do you want some of my "I don't give a shit pills" they do me the world of good?

The family is way more important, don't worry about it.

Is it the sort of thing James can help with?

Ah, would that be me?

Wish I could, but I'm about to start a new job about which I know nearly nothing and I'm a little swamped!  :o

Everything ok now with the logging in, but 2 more small things.

When I click on recent posts and they come up on the screen, only clicking on them again shows the ones marked new and some extra recent posts also come up.

My spell check facility has gone.

Dave, we are in the process of arranging some more technical help courtesy of Alex Foti.  I know he's pretty busy for the next few days, but he was going to address the photos not appearing on the wiki issue.  Hopefully he'll be able to look at smaller issues in time.

Re the spell checker, was this a function of you browser or the forum ... I've vague recollections that there was one included with the forum, but can't find any controls etc.

What browser are you using?  I use a rather obscure one called Sleipnir and that has a built in spell checker (useful for illiterate Muppets like me) which works, but with spell checker switched on in Firefox it doesn't appear to work on the forum.

Ah, just found it.

The forum does have a spell checker and the box is checked for it to operate but there is a red warning in that section stating that it won't work on all servers.

Don't know if that's fixable .. someone smarter than me will need to investigate, sorry!

In the meantime try looking at adding or switching on spell check in your browser.

Thanks, I'll give it a go.

They are only small points but I put them on this thread as a help to someone like Alex when he gets time to look.

I have a problem can not get on the wiki.
Title: Re: Host swap
Post by: Julian on June 21, 2016, 11:57:04 PM
There was a problem with the wiki in that the photos weren't showing up.

The problem was that only part of the required files were transferred over to the new host due to an upload limit imposed by the host.

Latest info is that Tony has managed to transfer all the files, but the new host runs a different type of server to the one Tony had and unfortunately not everything is compatible.

He's trying to juggle this with moving house so please bear with it for a few days or so.
