Title: rattle problems with van
Post by: photoman290 on April 02, 2016, 12:08:21 AM
copied from the other channel.

still got a rattle from somewhere in the engine?
an update as this is getting spread over 3 posts now. i changed the ip pump a couple of weeks ago and fitted new injectors. all was well for a few days. did around 30 miles in short journeys. no problems. went out monday got about 1 mile and there was a loud clatter from the engine. limped home. changed the IP pump for a recon one. checked tappets and started her up. sounded fine on tickover but the rattle is still there. not so bad but there is something not right. plan is play with the pump timing tomorrow and if that doesn't help pull the injectors and get them tested.
could it be a bent valve or something else engine related.? i hope not but running out of ideas of what it could be. was running fine till the pump problems. one mechanic says pump another says injectors. i just don't know.

I had a tappet undo once, the nut rattling around under the rocker cover made a hell of a noise ... could it be a bit an extraneous object in the rocker cover?

Screwdriver to ear on various parts of the engine to locate it?

Alternatively get a Disco ... rattles are quite normal and you can just ignore them.
