Title: van wont start
Post by: willbuild on January 21, 2016, 01:12:58 PM
Peugeot partner 1.9
Have been running on dino, got home and was low on fuel so put in 10lt of bio that was in shed.
Next morning it would not start.
Took lid off fuel filter reservoir and it was very low, so topped up with bio put lid back on and broke the clip. (Sigh)
New clip arrived this morning, went to put the clip on and noticed that the bio was gelling in filter housing. So I've been and got 10lr of dino and put in tank and rocked the van to mix.
Cleaned reservoir and filled.
Waiting for battery to charge. Should I wait till tomorrow, temperature up to 10 tomorrow, or any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Stick a blowtorch on the inlet manifold.

My Citroen Dispatch with the 1.9 IDI engine cracks up 1st thing in a morning on b100 with no additives and just leaving glowplugs on for 1 cycle. They can be difficult to start after messing about with the filter. After the cambelt broke on mine(had it 1 month and dealer didn't want to know, he changed cambelt and didn't fit tensioner properly) It had a new head and we had to use easystart to get it running.

That's what's so odd,  normally stars first time, started last week first time and hadn't been started for a month. glow plugs are ok and fitted new ones last winter and did check them.
Blow torch is tempting.

Fuel gelling never helps starting at the best of times. What with the temperatures being low and all, it could be a combination of things.

I've been starting on the button all year. First really cold morning, and she just turns over till the battery is flat.
The battery was pretty good really, but what with being stood for a day or two, plus high usage of it, wipers, heater blower, lights, and so on, it just hadn't got enough juice when the cold came.

Cold brings out minor little issues.

Blowtorch down it's throat will help.
Turn it on gentle, like. Last time I tried that I gave it full blast with a mapp gas torch, and it lit the condensed vapour that builds up from the crankcase breather. The foot long flame only lasted about two seconds, but it was quite a thrilling two seconds.

Stick a blowtorch on the inlet manifold.

Pretty certain they have plastic manifolds so be careful.

This bit rings alarm bells "Took lid off fuel filter reservoir and it was very low" as it suggests that it's pulling air in.
As the fuel take off is at the top of the filter no fuel will be getting to the pump.

The first thing to do is bleed the system using the primer bulb.

Re-reading, yes - this rings alarm bells for me too. Perhaps if it's started to gel then it's clogged up the lines? I've had this happen - a fan heater under the car sorted it.  :o
