Hi,
Does anyone have any knowledge of how to run an oil (basic well and wick variety) AGA on Veg Oil. I have tried a few times and it always clogs up the wicks. The burn usually lasts about 45min. I have also tried the same with Bio and this burns for about 4-5 hours then clogs up.
Any help/advice much appreciated.

Have you tried pre-heating the fuel? Running the line around the exhaust is a quick and dirty way to do it.

Unfortunately i dont think you are going to be able to do it, unless, possibly, you run the unit so fierce, that the soot burns off.... but i cant think you would want to do that.
It might be worth trying though? Im thinking 6 or 700c ish. Cast glows at about those temps, but, obviously the temp of the firebox wont be the temp of the rest of it.
We have a solid fuel rayburn - run it hot, and the firebricks end up perfectly white - but then i guess there is still a small amount of white deposit - only very small though.

AGAs aren't my area of expertise, so I can't help wit your question, sorry!
However, welcome to the forum and wiki.

f you happy to modify your aga a bit have a look for "tim from tang" he has successfully ran one on old engine oil. should work fine on bio veg oil mix.

Islebio, welcome.
What fuel is the aga supposed to run on.

Kerosene i suspect.

Kerosene i suspect.
Thought so. I experimented years ago trying to run kerosene heaters on various blends of WMO,WVO, BIO, kerosene. In all cases they did not like it unless the kerosene % was very high. bio/kerro was best.
I think the aga would have to be modded and a burner dish installed, fed by some sort of peristaltic pump. The speed of the pump could be controlled by temperature. the drawback to this is to clean out the burner dish the unit has to cool, like a workshop type thermobile.

Hi,
Thanks to everyone who has posted, and also for all the kind welcomes to the forum. The aga currently runs on Kerosene, no i have not yet tried pre-heating the veg oil but that was the next move with some inline heater. I wonder how hot i would have to get it? I know this would have to be before it goes to the control box as the slit in the metering pin is really narrow and if its too viscous it wont flow at the correct rate ( this works ok on bio but not on veg) I have set up a separate test tank so i can play about with different mixes of bio/kero/veg to see if anything works. Thanks for all your help so far.

There's that company run by the chap who has a reputation for being grumpy, that fits pressure jet burners... They would run on bio. Kerosene is so cheap at the moment though that I doubt it would be worth it.

It's possible this is the same guy, posts as 'pressurejet' on infopop. I think his name is M Hall, from Nottingham. His email is;

I'm sure he joined VOD a while ago but don't know his username on there.
