Title: Noticed someone missing at the bash
Post by: Rossey on July 05, 2015, 05:06:21 PM
Where's Paul (RM)?

Then thought I haven't seen him post on here recently

Hope he's alright.

He was missed by quite a few of us, I had some bits for him as well.

I must admit I can't put a face to your name, I'm sure we must have spoke, but I just didn't realize who you were.

I was with you when you were tying the string on the bubbler you made with arash's cutter

I knew we would have spoken, but I still can't picture you (too much of Vince's finest over the weekend).
Someone will have to point you out in the photos and chatter thread for me.

Paul told me on Facebook that he was not going - didn't elaborate on why though.

I missed RM too (had to make my own tea)!

Paul, if you read this please post to let us know everything is OK, or perhaps Jules can pass on our collective sentiments via facebook.

Skeaking of whom ... Jules, you were missed too ... people had to fix their own cars and Tash, the culinary side was all the poorer for your absence!

I was with Womble at that time and I wasn't aware of your identity, sorry!

I remember when I first attended the BBB everyone had name tags,  although a little embarrassing for the more bashful, it certainly prevented situations like the above occurring.  Maybe we could do a members only, "put a name t o a face" thread.

Any how Rossy, how come you didn't join in the womble baiting ... I was trying hard and getting nowhere!

Rossey was the local battery and UPS dealer, handing them out like sweeties to eager recipients :)

We also missed Tron and family, Alistair and Rob as well this year, we were definitely down a few, though attendance was excellent!

Paul if you read this that blowtorch nozzle you sold me last year was in constant use making plenty of fire this year, got some cracking photos and vids to post up later :)

Name to face is a really good idea.

Oh, and Jules how did you get on with your Snowdonia challenge?

I gave it my very best shot but sadly we retired as a team at 12.5 miles out of the 22mile course.
The weather was truely horrendous, 50+mph winds and horizontal rain on the peaks, very slippery rocks all the way down the miners track from Snowdon and it was arduous all the way. Conditions were so bad that the organisers actually extended the time limits by 30mins to give people a fighting chance.
Half the problem is the pace, we had to do the 8.5miles or so from Llanberis over Snowdon and crib-y-dygsyl and down the other side to pen-y-pass in 3hrs. On the flat that pace is easy but up, over and down a 3500 foot mountain in foul weather is a different thing entirely. We did manage 22minute miles up mountain but it was really draining.
We did make that checkpoint but I was suffering by then and the 2000 foot climb up the other side of the valley to Glyder Fach was just too much, literally I got to the point of stumbling and getting blurryness to the outer edges of my vision so it was time to call it a day.

I was bitterly dissapointed with myself as, whilst I knew it would be hard, I did not expect to find it quite so difficult.

We will go back for another attempt, possibly next year, but I need to up my level of training to a whole new level of pain having seen just how tough it is.

I must say, there were plenty of times when I wished I was sitting in Chugs field chewing the fat and drinking cider. Glad you all had a really good time, the hydroforming experiments look paticularly good fun.
I hope the heated pool was good, I just spent an hour in mine with a couple of beers getting over the weekend and the 360 mile drive home.

Takes a bigger man to call it quits, than to carry on and get hurt. Don't chew yourself up about it. Only one way of finding out what it's all about, and that is to do it.

Nothing to be disappointed with there it sounds like hell.  Well done you should be proud.

However, next year given the choice between the BBB with a new improved aqua park and beer, and hours of physical torture you'll be better armed to make the right decision.

Well done for giving it your best shot Jules, we all know you're not one for quitting.

I'm sure the hot tub would have been a home from home for you, even if it wasn't quite up to your normal standards.
