Title: Bio shed size.
Post by: oakwoodtv on June 05, 2015, 06:36:23 PM
Hope to start building the new bio workshop soon I have plenty of room
what size do you think would be ideal.

I want it large enough to store all bio related things but not to large
that I am tempted to keep non bio stuff in.

Thinking 11 foot x 8 foot internal and 8 foot high.

Mine's only 6 foot square and way too small.  I'm having to build fuel dumps for oil in various parts of the garden were I think she won't mind ... the remark "well, you get free fuel for your car" is wearing a little thin!

If I were to start again I'd go for something 4 or 5 times the size and I'd have doors through which I could fit an IBC.

Mine is 7ft x 18ft and I still have stuff stacked outside.  It's not all bio though having a workbench with vice, compressor and powertools etc admittedly.  But I could easily get rid of that and just have bio stuff in from the garden.

I wouldn't skimp on shed space if you have the option of more.

I have a large double garage.... I did put a car in it once (just once). Now when I go in there, I have to hold on to a rope attached to the door so I can find my way out. The wife reported me missing once and it took the search party a week to find me.

If I had an aircraft hanger, it would still be full to the gunnels with bio-paraphernalia.

I have just two things to say.

It can't be too big.

Whatever you build will be too small.

I started with a 7 x 7 shed, then changed to a 13 x 8, I now have a 16 x 10

what you have got right is the height, 8ft should be fine.

Mine is 13 foot by 15 foot. It's plenty for a processor, if it's kept tidy.
Ditto the comment about an aircraft hanger. .

Something about the size of Heathrow airport would be nice.

Parkinson's law states Possessions increase to fill the space available for
their storage.

For peeps like me "Possessions" should be changed for "crap".

Is that bio only.

Pretty much - bio plant, settling tank, sink with hot and cold running water, old dishwasher for drums and tools, lister CS generator, cooling system and UPS for the generator and a big stainless steel work bench (and loads of junk which seems to build up all the time)

I'm sure I could fill T5 given a few years.

Just explain "tidy" again?

I'm building a new man lair, looking at building it out of pallets. Bigger the better is always my motto, this includes penal warts haha.

It's one of those hypothetical words. In theory, it's possible, but not something I have ever achieved.

I believe in the saying a place for everything and everything in its place
but I have never achieved to put it in to practice.

As for the shed bigger it is 14 foot x 10 foot x 9 foot high
the extra height will give more shelf room for 25ltr drums.

A door on the rear wall will give the option of extending with
a lean-to for extra storage.

I have a 15 foot x 20 foot garage and a 14 foot x 23 foot workshop
both full to the gunwales with crap and knowing me if the bio shed
is to big the temptation to fill it with non bio stuff will be to great.

I like the idea of the dishwasher for cleaning drums I have an
old dishwasher and have tried to think of a way to make it
clean the inside of the drum.

And as for the penal warts that's to much information.

I just take the top rack out and then stand the drum (up to 50 litre ones fit) upside down, lid off and open end facing the bottom spray bar)
