Just carried out a 10/90 test and had .25ml fallout. Does that equate to 97.5% conversion? Is that a good reaction?
-
I maybe wrong here, I'm I exspect to get shot down in flames.
But.......
I think a clear 10/90 only shows a 98% conversion.
But if you let the reaction run for another 30 mins you'll probably get a clear pass.
-
2.5ml is 25% of 10ml therefore you only have a 75% conversion.
As Mark says the 3/27 is only and indicator, but it's the best test we currently have and you should be aiming for a clear pass. See ... http://www.biopowered.co.uk/wiki/3/27_test (http://www.biopowered.co.uk/wiki/3/27_test)
I doubt additional processing will convert the 25% balance, so it might be best to run an additional stage. See two stage with no titration ... http://www.biopowered.co.uk/wiki/Two_stage_process_with_no_titration (http://www.biopowered.co.uk/wiki/Two_stage_process_with_no_titration) and Tonys calculator in "Tools" ... http://www.biopowered.co.uk/forum/tools/notitration.php (http://www.biopowered.co.uk/forum/tools/notitration.php) for calculating the second stage requirements.

Head Womble,
No shooting down in flames, you are correct, not that I have ever checked this myself (no GC)
2% of oil can be miscible with the methanol, so a clear pass is quoted at >98%.
In Bio Boy's case it will be 95.5% conversion. Apparantly the spec for total glycerine will just pass with a dropout of 0.15ml.
Julian, just seen your post, it's only 0.25ml dropout that bio boy has.

Ooops, sorry ... ignore everything I posted ... should have gone to Specsavers!

You're not wrong, I had to work all of this week, last week and probably some of next week too ... it's so unfair!

i had to work for 9 whole hours this week >:(

Would it be worth re-reacting at this level of conversion or not?

Depends on the vehicle it is going in. In my case I would have no worries in my cars, in fact I tend not to worry about much more fallout than that.
-
What cars do you have?
-
Bio-Boy,
As Dickjotec says, it depends on the vehicle. Some, if using the fuel in older indirect injection engines only aim for 90 to 95% conversion. This won't bother the engine at all and less soap will be created.
If you are using common rail, then you would be better to get your 10/90 that shows no dropout, Even though you still have up to 2% unconverted oil.
There is a way where you can 'virtually' guarantee a 100% conversion which is to do a small further reaction even when the 10/90 is clear. (so you are converting the rest of the 2%) I have done this in the past but it is a bit of an 'overkill'
