Title: Could this be the final straw
Post by: Head Womble on April 01, 2015, 05:48:15 PM
We yesterday I lost another collection, my first collection as well, I've had them for over 7 years.
Not the best oil but a steady supply that accounted for over 50% of my oil.

Do I continue bio and try to setup a website, or listen to the wife and jack it all in.

At this point I'm after some moral support guys.

There seems to be a glut of oil about at the moment. I know your short on space, but could you somehow splash out on a thousand litres? It's going to knock the savings back a bit, but a couple of hundred doesn't go far when your putting diesel in.

To be honest, if you are not using much fuel and dont use it for anything else like heating or power then it may be time to cut the cord so to speak. You will suddenly find a lot of time on your hands.

I'm surprised that you cant get oil though. I have too much and keep turning down on passing on collections.
Snippy must have had 1500 litres redirected his way in the last five or six months from me.
It really is easy to set up a website, it costs next to nothing (even the domain name is only a few pounds per year) and pays dividends.
I am thinking of taking mine down, or adding a new page saying i am not taking any new collections as it is too successful.
What have you got to lose?

I've got spare oil you're welcome to, but I would want what I paid for it ... I could probably do you at least 200 ltrs, maybe more as I need to collect from the local pub I've been neglecting.

I'd echo what's been said above, get a website sorted.  I've been turning down new collections and just plain stopped going to one that needs pumping out of a drum because it's too much hassle.

If it will help any you can take over the Chinese collection in Surbiton where you've collected before, and there's another very spasmodic one in Kingston you're welcome to.

Thanks for the support guys, I needed a boost.

At present I have about 200L of semi solids, and 100ish L of liquids, so I'm not at the begging stage just yet.

Julian, can I take you up on the offer of the collections.

So where do I start with making a website (the one I have is useless and doesn't show up on searches) ?

Is Dave (Basic Chemicals) still doing meths as there was talk of him stopping, I still have 100L or so but will need more to carry on.

But he won't deliver down our way, although Mark's a bit nearer than me.

I collect in 25L drums, delivery is not practical for me.

Yup, no problems.  Next time Sam contacts me I'll refer him to you.  The other is, as I said, very spasmodic, but I'll PM you the details and you could contact them if you want.

There was that one you passed to me in Hampton Court.  I stopped collecting there as the quality was poor, the guy wanted good money, and it was a log haul for me ... that may be redeemable if you're really stuck.

Keep going Mark you silly fecker, what are you on!

Dave at basic is basically retiring, hes slowly clearing his yard, he said he will do meths etc if he has vehicles going CLOSE by, he said I would still be ok for a while and he usually delivers mine himself anyway.

BUT after 3 failed deliveries and then repeated calls over 3 days from me where they kept saying he wasn't there, and he never rang me back even after 3 calls asking, so I left a last message saying, If Dave had got any decency to call me back by the end of the day, never heard from him, so he is now on my 'turned out to be a feckin wanker' list!

Hampton Court was a complete ball ache for me due to their opening hours and weekend parking, they also  wanted me to collect at a drop of the hat and didn't want a monthly collection (even though they phoned once a month) so I'll give that a miss mate.

Thanks Chug.

You say it as it is, you silly old fecker.

Plus if I gave it up what would be the highlight of my year, as I couldn't turn up to the BBB running dino now could I.

I've got approx 2-300L in the bottom of my feedstock tank that needs to go. It's liquid, but mostly whites.

To the guys that have offered me oil, it's a very kind gesture, however most of you are just a little to far to make it worth while.

No doubt you would, I've done it myself in the past.

It's funny that in this game it's feast or famine, in the past I've been looking at 1000 to 1200L, giving collections away, turning down new collections and giving oil away.
If only I had that much now.

I got a phone call today from a place I used to collect from,
although they changed hands and had stopped doing hot food that didn't last long, they want me to go and clear their backlog,
said they had quite a stockpile, 6 months worth  ;D

So things are looking up, even the wife is sounding a little positive.

Good news, that should keep you in the game for a while longer.

If you fancy a trip down this way at any point, I can send you home with as much oil as that Disco will carry as well as filling it up with bio for you. There is a bit of a bonanza oil wise down here for sure.

Tash collected 120litres on Wednesday and 240litres today
I collected 100 litres today and have about 300 to collect tomorrow.  I am getting close to running out of stockpiling capacity, even with the heating and Lister running on it

Jules, the answer is obvious ... start a district heating scheme.

They did some exploratory drilling in a field not far from me a few years back.  May well (pun) be part of the same survey.  Just listen out for the tree huggers in this area, they'll have a field day.

I'm off to build drilling a derrick in the back garden.

I'll have to see how much they have got piled up, I used to collect 60L every 6 weeks or so.
So it could be around 240L, maybe more, maybe less.
But it's regular which is more important.

Oh and no mention of payment, just come and pick it up, please.

Of course I'll be at the BBB, got to defend my title and drive away with all the oil again this year.

Only got 85L from that collection, but it's good clean oil with very little wights and free, so worth the bother.
