Title: Centrifuge advice please.
Post by: neisel on March 10, 2015, 05:21:02 PM
I'm bidding on this centrifuge on ebay  - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321686102302?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT - & wondered if the panel could tell me what else I would need to make this thing work?

The plan is to use it to give my BD a final clean for my next car, which will be a new fangled diesel (the next generation on from my W202 C250 TD, perhaps an MB CDi) demanding better, cleaner fuel than my OM605 engined car can use.

TIA.

You'll need a gear pump capable of a 7bar output at the require flow to drive the fuge plus pressure relief valve and hydraulic line and a good gauge.

Don't bit too high on the auction, as the fuge itself is not the expensive part - its the pump etc that go with it.

I don't know if you can use a car pas pump or not, but that would seem the first thing to check.
Then, maybe, fork lift units?

I have a 48v 3700w forklift unit here but powering it has always been my stumbling block.

There are a few fuges powered by pas pump and an electric motor.

Julianf (& anyone else who knows about these things),

What would you say would be the max that 'fuge is worth?

£189 for a new dynamically balanced 500cc model.

I'd suggest far less.  When Nathan was selling them, I don't believe they were anything like that cost for the bare unit.

You could try mailing nathan to see if he still has any old stock about?

Thanks Bob.

That is obviously way more than the current bid on the first auction, but two things to consider are -

You'll need those extra bits anyhow, and they're probably not cheap (you also need a pump)

And..

Nathan will, I'm sure, do you an off eBay deal for less.

Or he may be happy to just sell you the pipes gauges valves etc to go with the used one in the first listing -,worth asking.

Thanks everyone.

I'm not going to be bidding on the ebay 'fuge so if you are interested knock yourself out.

I'm in no hurry & need to educate myself on the topic a bit more.

Well remembered, Keith.  The photos in photo bucket appear to still be there, so I recon we ought to finish the page and index it ... poor old wiki is getting rather forgotten these days.

Unless there are any other volunteers, I'll do it when I get a chance.  If I forget, someone please remind me!
