Blew the capacitor up today, it popped just where the ref numbers were, hopefully its just the capacitor, the user guide only says 33uF, anybody know what one i should be looking for?
-
Probably best to post on the other channel. Loads of folk with TAM's....not me though. Do you you want me to post for you ;D
-
Errr ... 15 TAMs out Nige!

Errr ... 15 TAMs out Nige!
Not sure what you mean by that Julian!
Keith...Vijay has posted this from his TAM 105:

Now I do....just re-read. Sorry
-
I've got a TAM 120 (least I think it is). I'll open it tomorrow and have a look.

Vince has a 120. Says he'll have a look tomorrow when he's sober enough to enter his shed. I think he's been on the cider again. 8)

Err, i dont? :D

Julian says I was 15 out.....a reference to my mis-understanding that your request was for a 105 cap rather than a 120. Just me being a dip-shit for not reading the thread topic correctly.

Ah, got it

I can do sums, me.

Found it in the manual.

33 micro farad @ 450 volts.
-
This is what's fitted to my pump.
Although I bought it second hand, I've no reason to suspect it's no original ... looks like I'll be needing one soon too, so posting details of where you purchase would be appreciated!
Going to need a terminal box cover too, but I might have a go at printing one.

Yep, exactly the same as the remains of mine, strange as the manual says 33 and this is 40
-
From what I remember of my capacitor melt down on the lowara you can fit one with a higher uF rating but not one with a lower value.
-
sorry to be late with the info, i put it down to dead brain cells, not sure how that happened 8)
anyway my tam 120 has a 40uF 450v ac Cap.

Is this suitable?

Yes, that is exactly the same as the one in my tam120, same size 92mm and same connections, just make sure you plug it in the right way round.
-
slight correction mine has no bolt on the end you may have to cut that off
-
Thanks again Vince
-
Just make sure you plug it in the right way round.
Motor capacitors are not polarized can be connected ether way round.

When i get it i may have to check on here, when it blew it blew the spade terminals off, so it might not be clear

Ok , did not know that

Well the new capacitor hasnt cured it, how do i test the windings just to be sure its dead?
Looks like i will have to fork out a couple of hundred :(
-
Even though it's new, it might be worth testing the capacitor too ... but it'll take someone smarter than me to tell you how!
Hope it's no the capacitor because I just bought the same one last night.

Check for continuity of the windings should be a few ohms between the live and neutral terminals
and between the two terminals that the capacitor connects to.
From the casing to live neutral and capacitor terminals should be open circuit or a very high reading.

With a meter on a mid ohms range connect to the capacitor a good cap will read low resistance
and rise to open circuit in a few seconds reverse the cap and it will do the same.
This is only a rough and ready check.

Cheers, Will do
-
All well and good, turned out it has also melted the black connection box, so the live wasn't going to the capacitor, had to replace it with a choc block, not ideal but it runs
-
Good news!
My capacitor should be here next week, but I'll be running a batch tomorrow so I just hope the old one holds out!
-
one connecter block or a new pump no contest.
