Title: Snapped cambelt, rockers needed
Post by: Head Womble on September 20, 2014, 10:45:17 PM
Today the cam belt snapped on SWMBO's 406 HDI, it's taken two valve rockers out, so much for being changed before I brought it.

I'm away from Monday to Friday so I'm tight on time for getting some from a scrap yard.

So, has anyone got a 2L HDI 8V (DW10) engine they could take two rockers out and post to me, willing to pay obviously.

Now found some on ebay so no longer required.

I think I remember you saying your lad was doing it, but I didn't know you were on it.  Where from and to ... must have been a blast!

Back to reality and broken motors!

My lad done the forth leg last year and the tenth two weeks ago (it's taken around 22 months), he also booked the two of us on the very last leg London to Southampton (he even paid for us both, he's a good lad).

We both had a great time, played a few pranks on some of the crew and worked very hard (with not a lot of sleep).

The food was great, so was the crew, we were involved in everything from manning the helm, mess duty, scrubbing the deck raising the sails, night time watch duty, the lot, I went to the top of the mane mast a few times.

We even had a couple of landy owners on board so had something to chat about.

SWMBO joined us yesterday for the end of voyage party (much drinking and merriment).

So yes, we had a blast and now back on mainland (it feels funny walking on something that doesn't move around all the time) and time to fix the car.

Been at it all day and it's still not running.

After putting the new belt and followers on it would only turn 1/3 of a rotation, much head scratching and re-setting the timing 3 times I've found that the HP pump is jamming.
Luckily I have a spare one, unluckily the sprocket broke into peaces while trying to remove it.

Tomorrow I'll get another sprocket and start again.

At least I now know why the belt snapped in the first place.

Didn't make it to the scrappy before they closed (why do they all close so early nowadays, I bet it's down to H&S).
So I've ordered one off ebay.

Also picked up a new (to me) caravan, ebay is dangerous, well I was looking for one but have now spent £2500 on one unseen, I wasn't even drinking.

I've bought houses for less that ... what is it?  Some sort of mobile gin palace or stately home, with a butler, couple of foot men and scullery maid thrown in?

Do you need to drain the moat before towing it on the road?

Don't forget to secure the portcullis, if left up they rattle about like crazy on the road (not to mention the risk of vikings getting in).

He needn't worry about the Vikings, he's got a Trebuchet.

I can now storm my own castle.

The sprocket turned up today, a nice new one in a PSA box.

Around 2 hours work and it's alive again and running better than it has in a long time.
