Title: Vitara Jeep MOT
Post by: greasemonkey on September 02, 2014, 09:19:27 PM
May as well stick it on here, as well, also......

I've just had a P reg Suzuki Vitara jeep MOT ed.
Mentioned to the previous owner, (Forum member. Howdy, if your reading), and he said that it shouldn't have failed on rust where it did.

Had a good inspection tonight.

The vehicle has a separate chassis. Among a few other simple things it has failed on, there is,

NSF and OSF arch suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded.

OSR and NSR inner arch seat belt anchorage mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded.

So far so good, except, the at no point is the inner wing attached to the suspension, and neither should it be.
There is a large solid strut, comes up off the chassis, the suspension strut is attached to this, and a bar runs under the bonnet, joining the two top strut mounts.

Similarly, the rear seat belt anchorage, is bolted directly to the chassis, through the body, and basically, you could chop the bit of body work off, (inner arch) and it wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference to the strength of the seat belt mounting.
I might be wrong with this one mind.

Basically, I'm just going to weld it up anyway. They do a lot of MOTs for us, and are pretty good.

However, I think he has cocked it up, and tested it as though it is a monocoque construction vehicle. I will certainly be questioning him about it when I see him.

So what does anyone think about the front inner wings, mostly?

Ah, but Jeeps were Jeeps before Jeep called them Jeeps.......

I don't think so, they were General Purpose Vehicles made by Willis which was shortened to GP, as is common in the forces which sounds like geepee, as they are still called in the Philippines.

JEEP I believe is a Chrysler mark.

sorry, its just a pet hate of mine.

along with broken rich tea biscuits.........

and its important to note that it was actually called a JEEP, before some mad welshman stripped one down and put a plywood body shell on it.....

Spent two years working on a site that was only accessable with a 4x4. The top three performers were nissan patrol, suzuki vitara and the trusty land rover.
The suzuki would go places the other two were not able to because of its width
