Title: Posting manual and instructions.
Post by: Julian on August 27, 2011, 04:49:48 PM
Further to the recent thread on the VOD, what do the regulars think about putting up instructions and manuals for regularly used bits of kit, i.e. PIDs.

Worded carefully it shouldn't contravene the wiki ethos of promoting commercial items, but may contravene manufacturers copyright.

But as HCII pointed out, we are, to a degree, assisting them in ensuring their products are used to their greatest effect.

The worst they can do is to tell us to take the page down.

Any thoughts?

Bump ...

Don't want to go ahead and do this unless everybody is happy with the idea.

Had a quick look at making the page visible only to members, it might be possible, but it would appear that some of the code is non-wiki and has warnings regarding security.  All starts to get a little beyond me I'm afraid.

I'm a little concerned about copyright materials and liability - that said there are sites that specialise in datasheets.

So ... What do you recon?

As admins we would be the first to be approached, but it's not really such a heinous crime.  If reported we just take them down.  We're not denigrating the product simply making available what they are happy to send to anyone who requests it.  There are already odd photos taken from the internet without credits.
