Seem to have accidentally bought another one :)
This one is custom wrapped but a non-runner... project Largo to add to the collection :)

I'll have to "watch" out for one of those ;)

You can't say you bought another motor and not put up any pics...

Money hasn't changed hands yet but price agreed, should be back here tomorrow if all goes well!
-
hahaha that's that puke 'n' snot van for sale on vod hahahaha
Are you going to keep the wrap?
It would make an excellent ad for your veg collection site if you put some stickers on it.
-
Yeah...that's the same colour as BassAdddicts motor.....bloody 'orrible ::)
-
I coughed up something that color once, antibiotics sorted it.
-
Don't spill bio on it. Before long the plastic will be flapping in the wind as you drive down the road!
-
There's nothing wrong with lime green cars, I like it.
So that's not paint, it's a plastic wrapper?
Cool.
-
Yes it's a vinyl wrap, done professionally. Quite a hard thing to master by all accounts.
Green wouldn't be my first choice but despite that I do quite like it :)
-
What happens when water get in behind the film?

What happens when water get in behind the film?
It's quite possible to apply vinyl using soapy water allowing you to position the film before squeegeeing out the water. Once it's stuck properly, it's very unlikely to get anything behind it.
It's been tested on the superstructure of large ships in place of paint and I think it's used on aircraft decals.
-
I was thinking stone hits it makes a hole, water gets in and you have no why I getting it out.
Making a rust machine?
-
Well I think this guy knows what he's doing... and it has a new cambelt + IP belt + tensioners + bluetooth stereo + full valet - I'm very surprised he's parting with it. My only concern is if it has some engine damage of some sort but he says sometimes it runs and sometimes it doesn't, so I'm thinking air leak or stop solenoid.
I've also got a spare VP37 pump inbound.

Maybe it's been wrapped to hide the fact it's a rust bucket.
-
All sound, the sliding door needed a little work but I've got all the photos of the prep work done pre-wrapping.
Going to go inspect it in more detail Thursday evening then flatbed back up here Friday.

Tony, you seem to have morphed overnight from a spit and sawdust 4X4 owner to a last chance trendy boy racer ... what's happening?
-
Mid life crisis.

Mid life crisis.
That's what I thought. Next it will be a thick gold chain with medallion.

That's a drug dealer Julian, keep up mate.

I haven't fitted the methanol injection kit yet. Might have to allow for some space next to the subs.
No, this one is because ever since I bought mine, my friends keep eyeing it up. One has already gone out and bought a 4x4 version of it and another friend is very interested in this one if we fix it up. It's all good fun when it's not your daily drive you're working on, and the missus is willing with the spanners too so we'll work on it together (she's previously helped with pump in/out on the Delica, radiators and the like).
-
All jokes aside I like it! Its unique which cannot be said of most cars on the road. Besides who cares, you like it you buy it and drive it. How much are these going for these days?

It's very hard to price them but it seems to be about £2-3k for a reasonable one.
Much though it is very eye catching I can't justify replacing our current one which only has 40k miles on the clock... the green one is up at 80k.
I'm not sure the missus will let me keep both :)
Current issue is how to get a non-runner up my sloping driveway. We have a chunky concrete retaining wall at the upper end, how much tension do you think a 10mm anchor bolt with eye would take if I used it as a winch point?
-
What you need is a calibrated test weight of known rolling resistance... I know you can use your largo, if it pulls ok then you can use it to pull the green up your drive! hahaha
I would use a snatch block and bolts bigger than 10mm. Or get some mates/bio buddies around to push it up!
Failing that do what I do and only take on non running projects that you can push on your own like 100cc scooters!
-
That's a good idea, I'll test it with the working one first, make sure it can hold it in reverse down the drive then I'll know if it can take pulling one up.
-
What you doing up this late on a school night? This is now the territory of the confirmed night owls like me and chunder!
-
Brain too busy. I should sleep...
-
I've been looking at wrap prices. Looks like a reasonable option against a full respray, and a lot quicker and less hassle.
There is the advantage that if you come to sell, at least on a nnew vehicle, you can just pull it off, and have like new paint underneath. Well worth the money.
Doing panels yourself looks reasonable, plenty on Ebay.
Can you bulldoze the dead car up your drive?
Just get a solid bar, mount it at the back of the dead one, and to the front of the live one. Make sure it's well mounted though. Dont want it popping out and going through something important.
-
Definitely an option, though I'm looking at the pins through my solid bar and thinking that they are the only thing between me and two broken Largos. At least with towing if something fails, the car behind just slows down...
-
The pins in the bar as rated for the snatch of pulling away / changing gear, so will be fine with a gentle push up the drive.
-
A typical m10 bolt will take in excess of 3000kg of force before it fails under shear load.
-
I will try M12 - but it will be pure tension not shear. I like the crazy Iranian's idea of testing it first with the working car. Good thinking that man.
-
A typical m10 bolt will take in excess of 3000kg of force before it fails under shear load.
And in tension it'll (likely) be the connection to the wall that fails before the bolt does.
-
What are you putting the bolt into?
If your going to put it into the middle of a brick, or block, then I would almost guarantee you that it will pull it out of the wall, like a cork out of a bottle, and probably a few others will follow.
My advise would be, don't do it.
-
Straight into a massively thick concrete retaining wall.
-
At least if it is nine inch hollows, it will only rip out, and not bring much else with it. If it's shuttered concrete, it would probably hold a train back.
-
Shuttered, not going anywhere :)
-
Job's on.
-
Should post some update pics :)
"Kermit" arrived by flatbed Friday lunchtime and was up on ramps Saturday morning. No need to winch as was just about drivable.
Small throttle slave and engine diagnostics ;)

A few bits off later...
And no more cambelt. Replacement tensioner fitted - though I need to pick up a new belt.
Whatever the story is here the pump belt was on one tooth too many and cambelt seemed to be on one tooth too short. Rear pump tensioner a bit worn and belt with many holes in. Front tensioner was in a right state and whoever previously did the belt bent the lower timing cover so it was rubbing on the idler pulley, it has almost worn all the way through the metal. Cambelt not in good shape.
So it looks like the valvetrain timing may have been out by one tooth, but compression is fine though so we are sure she will be up and kicking again as soon as we've got some new belts on and retimed it all.
Just waiting for parts now :)
-
She sure looks clean underneath and around the engine. Be great if all it needs is belts and a bit of adjustment.
Top two pics ain't coming up for me. Internet is cronked, so might be a problem my end.
-
Top two pics dont come up for me either so I guess there is something wrong
-
I can see all three pics.
If it's as easy as timing it all up properly that's a real steal.
-
Bargain, and so much nicer looking than the serena.
-
I can see all three pics.
There are five Mark, but only three display. The two above them just show as empty placeholders.
-
Fixed, it was the image hosting I used, http://imagefra.me that was the problem... you weren't missing much!
-
Mwah ha ha, now I can't see any of them! :)
-
Ooh, first start with new timing belts :) Fingers crossed moment!

sounds sweet, well done!

Good job, it's nice when something comes together that well.
Just need to spend a couple of hours with a hair dryer now!
-
Woohoo! Kermit rides again!
Tidy job.
-
Would you swap it for a Land Cruiser? :o

Hmm, that's got to be worth considering.
Plucked from the world of hair dressers cars, back to the realm of 4x4s (even if it's not a Disco).
-
I would certainly swap it for a Land Cruiser :)
-
In all seriousness, I might be interested in it. I'm not sure if I'd be able to do a straight swap - I'd have to research how much they're both worth. I do need some of the LC's value in liquid form.
Could you give me a measurement of the loadspace in the back with the seats down? I need to be able to get all my toys in!
-
Good work there Tony, that fired on pretty much the first compression stroke. I hope you celebrated with some suitable liquid refreshment afterwards.
Definitely pay some attention to a swap for James' Landcruiser - it is a really nice and very imposing vehicle. Think how much fun you can have playing with a 4.2 straight six :)
