Title: Oil heating calculator
Post by: Tony on July 18, 2011, 11:56:13 AM
Quickly thrown together in javascript

Might be possible to get javascript working within the context of a wiki page but I've not got the time right now :)

Very impressive, I like it!

Love the idea of being able to put calculators on the wiki, there are several "we" could do.  I had a peek at the code and it looks to be way beyond me, so the onus may be on you to put them together though!

To make it more useful, how about adding cost to the calculator?  Wouldn't it just be a multiplying kWhs from another input of unit cost?

So, you're good with sums then?  'Cos I'm struggling with the Methanol purity page.  Can I send you a spread sheet I've been playing with?

I'm a coder, so I have to do sums for my job, e-mail it on over! :)

Added a cost field :)

But - what's the average unit cost of electricity?

Most of us are on confusing two tier schemes where the first n kWh are one price (like 27p) which drops to 12p or so over the threshold.  Really doesn't help!  I remember when charging used to be flat rate and easy to compare...

I've sent the info on Methanol purity by mail but it contained some funny characters ... if there's a problem, let me know.

Re the electricity cost, I understand what you are saying, I got an additional problem with a third tariff of economy seven, but if you had an input box people could enter what ever tariff they wanted.

Thanks for this Tony, it's nice to know it will take me 1 hour 10 mins to heat my oil at a cost of 42p.

No problem.

If there are any other calculators that would be useful (NaOH/Meth volume calculations from titration perhaps?) then let me know.

I use the biodiesel excel spread sheet for my titration values. Will you be putting the calc sheet on the wiki so it is easily accessible?

I'd like to but yet to figure out how :)
