Title: Bio hose
Post by: Head Womble on February 25, 2014, 09:40:02 PM
I've been chatting to a guy that's renting space in the workshop where my plant is, he is selling this hose on Ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bio-diesel-hose-1-25mm-premium-product-specially-designed-for-Bio-8-mt-long-/151238180821?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item23367f7fd5

I'll be getting a small sample to put in a jar of bio and see just how good it is.

He has said that a discount for biopowered and VOD members could be on the cards.

He can also crimp fittings on the pipe if required.

Could well be of interest, but the advert states PVC and NBR ... I didn't think either were bio proof.  PVC certainly sweats and I thought that nitrile got eaten by bio.

I had some of that hose off him last March, seemed ok at first, but after a few weeks the hose started to weep bio along the whole length. I had to change it after a month or so as it was so bad. I mailed him to question the 'designed for bio' claim and never received a reply.

My advice is don't waste your time or money on it, get some Polipo hose from oilybits http://www.oilybits.com/hose-couplings-reels/polipo-pu-lined-delivery-hose/prod_526.html - miles better than the crap he's selling.

I've used that on my delivery system.  It's been ok for several months, but the last week or so it's started leaking at the ends.  Not quite sure why, I'll have to dismantle it and investigate.

This isn't good, however I'm in the position to re-educate him by fitting some to my plant (free sample from him) and showing him the results.

I do know that he's never made bio and is going by the specs given by the supplier.

I do however need to be subtle about it as he's renting space in the workshop whereas I get it as good as free.

At least if it is on your plant Mark he will have visual evidence, whether it will change his advertising claims I doubt (seems he has already been told and not taken any notice)

I spoke to him today and he's happy to do the test.

Sounds like he doesn't want it testing.
