Hi and welcome.

I can't speak for everyone but the majority seem to run Citroën/Peugeot or VolksWagon/Audi with the occasional Lawnrover thrown in.

What's this word "breakdown" you use.

I can't speak for everyone but the majority seem to run Citroën/Peugeot or Volkwagon/Audi with the occasional Lawnrover thrown in.

What's this word "breakdown" you use.

If you were an occasional Land Rover owner, you'd understand the meaning of breakdown.

And welcome to the wiki and forum, biobill.

Jules spent most of the BBB under his so he could get back home.

That's the thing about Land Rovers and their devoted owners ... they might break down (the Land Rovers that is), but the mechanical calibre, ingenuity and resourcefulness of the owners usually means they get to where they are going.

Oh, and I run a 300 TDI Discovery with a heated filter and a PD Golf TDI (except winter months) on B100.

I think it's been done on the VOD before, but got lost in the mass of posts, but how about we start a wiki page listing members vehicles, any bio/veg related problems and the solutions to overcome them?

Julian...why don't you run the golf on bio in the winter...or are you running some sort of blend?

Before I put the heated filter on the current Disco, I spent several hours swabbing out the tank on the old Disco, two winters running.  In sub zero temperatures it's a decidedly unpleasant task which I don't intend to repeat.

Now I've been water washing for a while and have bulk storage with top skimming outside, I may give it a bash next winter.  Given the complexity of the PD fuel system I don't want to take any chances.

I've just pumped the last batch from the shed to the outside holding tank and low and behold there are little white ball (just a few) on the side of the settling tank.

As the person trying to find stuff amongst my junk to help Jules, I can testify to his patience and ingenuity in fixing the part, the sort of thing that's not really meant to come apart and full of springs and ball bearings type of job, and the same with taking a laptop apart and putting it all back together.

Mitsi Delica here for 5+ years.

Started on veg/dino mix, then commercial bio (which was rubbish and damaged the injection pump, which I eventually replaced), then homebrew biodiesel.  Fuel related failures have been filter blockages, air ingress, or melted pipes.  No engine/combustion related problems at all.

Made a start on the wiki page here ...http://www.biopowered.co.uk/wiki/Members_vehicles_running_biodiesel_or_vegetable_oil

Welcome any comments.

To save me ploughing through pages of html stuff, can anyone add the code to limit/regulate the width of the cells?

Would contributors to this thread mind completing the information required in the following between the td tags and either paste direct into the wiki page of post in this thread and I'm sure someone will add it to the page.

Try and keep the problems and cure sections concise and to the point.

Don't use this code ... see further on in this thread or look on the wiki page (format now sortable)

I once had to clean out the tank on my Disco and decided never again.
I have got through the last two winters without any problems by only using feedstock that stays liquid at low temps, water washing and then adding cold flow additive.
At least, on a disco there is a means of getting into the tank to clean it.

I had similar thoughts when putting it together, but I just wanted to throw something up quick and easy to start with.  The pages success will rely on people populating it which is often proves difficult.

I recently and found a wiki where the table will sort columns alphabetically when you click on the header, so that might be the way to go.  It will make it easy for contributors to simply add entries at the bottom of the list, but offer the facility for viewers to sort into make, model, fuel type etc.

Well, I've managed to get a sortable table added to the bottom of the page, but it has a couple of  problems ...

Jame's entry seems to mess up the last cell in that row, spacing within the cells seems a little unpredictable and if you try and sort on the year, it locks up.

Help! anyone able to see where I've cocked up, 'cos I'm dammed if I can?

Ok, I've transferred all the data to the sortable table.

Can those who have already filled it in check that my ant like brain has transferred all the data correctly please.

Also can people alter their mileage to start with a total, numerical figure I think it should be ok to qualify it with text, just so long as it starts with a number.  That way the sort facility will make sense.

Low compression petrol engines will run on diesel/Bio, as a teenager I had a Triumph Tigress 250cc scooter which had 6/1 compression, I used to nick some of dads heating oil and add it to the petrol, a pig to start if you added too much and plenty of white smoke especially on overrun but did get me to the next months pay. lol

You really must keep up, Mark.  The table changed it's format from html to be a searchable wiki format.

You should have used this format ...

<!--Make-->|
<!--Model-->|
<!-- Year-->|

<!--Fuel-->|

<!--Cures-->|

I'll delete the old html post so other silly bastar people don't do the same.

With the new format, just stick your data after each vertical line and make sure that the vertical line and dash (|-) are between each set of data.

If you want to copy the data to repopulate the new format, I'll leave it in place for an hour or two before correcting it so you can insert the new stuff.

I think a modifications section needs to be added so we can tell the whole story.

Good point but the table might start getting a bit cramped with too many columns ... how bout I make the "Cures" column "Cures/modifications"?

I've added my cars, but it's not formated properly, can someone sort this out please.

Have you met Nige?

You really must keep up, Mark.  The table changed it's format from html to be a searchable wiki format.

You should have used this format ...

|-
<!--Make-->|
<!--Model-->|
<!-- Year-->|
<!--Member-->|
<!--Fuel-->|
<!--Mileage-->|
<!--Problems-->|
<!--Cures-->|

All done, and I've never worked behind a bar in my life.

Well done.  I'd just done all three entries off line, and noticed that you'd done it when I went to paste them in ... doh!

Mind if I tidy up a couple of things on yours and other entries to make sense of the sorting facility?  6K will not sort the same as 6000 etc.

Hmm, interesting.  Mileage sorting seems only to operate on the first number, so 6,000 is placed above10,000.  Strange!

Not at all, you may even find some spelling mistakes.

Got to say, this page is looking great.  Very useful to see in one place what everyone is running and their experiences.

Would it be worth mailing all members requesting that they add their vehicles details (I'm happy to do it)?  I think it can be done in the newsletters section.

I'm sure not all will oblige, but the more information we can add to the page the more useful it will become.

Glad it appeared to work, that said I didn't receive a copy!

I'm guessing it's clever enought to know I sent the message and omit me ... feeling a little left out though!

Well I tried my best, I had it sending to all groups.

I'm not really sure how you could test it beforehand or check who didn't receive a mail, proving a negative is a little tricky!

I know mine is but is the email address under which you registered still current?

Ah, just sussed out a couple of possible reasons ...

There's an "Allow users to email me" option.

And there's a "receive newsletters option" that needs to be ticked.

Additionally since we moved servers, I haven't been receiving email notifications of new PMs.

There was an option to ignore preferences when sending newsletters, so at the risk of pissing people off (one of my areas of excellence), I may give it a second go.

To that end could someone send me the text they received in the email as there appears to be no record kept of what was sent.

I've sent you an e-mail forwarding my message as an attachment.

I got it twice, but that's because I have this account and a test account with standard permissions.

I got your mail but I couldn't open the attachment for some reason.  Can you paste the message into the body of a mail please?

Thanks, I've just resent the newsletter, it took quite a long while to execute the instruction and appeared to stop 63% way through the process, but after a little rest, carried on.

Any chance you can put a link to the wiki page right at the beginning of the thread?

Every time I want to look at it I have to search through the different pages to find it. Then since my brain is going with age I forget to bookmark it and forget which page I found it on!  So have to do the same again next time :-[

Thanks

1991 Renault Dodge 50, 7 1/2 ton recovery truck and 1998 Merc C250TD. Both 100% bio.
Have to change Dodge fuel filter once a year which only does about 1k miles yet Merc can do 12k miles with no filter problems. Merc makes up for it by blowing off diesel return lines occasionally [despite it being low pressure and me changing them to Viton with clips to hold down].
