Advice wanted on the above.
I am thinking of learning one of the above for control, the lister and perhaps the processor. I would want to use sensors to detect and motors or servos to control. What I want to know is which is the easiest to learn to program and which is the cheapest to use in terms of add ons. I have done some basic programming before and have dabbled with a plc.
What's your opinion?

Arduino. Without a doubt.
It's based around a very common micro controller, has a very good support base, millions of tutorials and there's a library for pretty much everything.
I'm plotting an Arduino based engine supervision system for my Lister. I can give you a shout when I have something working if you like.

Thanks I would appreciate that. One of the things I am thinking of is an adition to the govenor to keep the revs more stable but also to enable it to look at grid export to increase or decrease revs keep export to a minimum. As I have to turn the fuel over to runny oil every night an auto shutdown is on the cards.
Can you point me to some basic starting tutorials?

Here's a good place to start:

And Ladyada (big name in the hobby electronics world) has a tutorial:

And there's the Arduino people themselves:

As Dick certainly knows, i have some interest in this area also, so would be glad to see how things progress.
I'm not in a position to do anything useful at the moment, but ill certainly cheer from the sidelines ; )
