Title: You can now say "I told you so"
Post by: Head Womble on November 06, 2013, 10:30:29 PM
Come on then you lot, do your worst with the I told you so.

A while ago I posted about my idea for mist washing overnight and unattended,
well I did just that last night, after a clear 10/90 and 7% water wash.

Tonight I returned to see my tastefull flooring with a nice bio sheen.

I have no idea just how much bio found it's way into the drain but what was left is still a little cloudy in a 50/50 test,
so, as the never overflowing wash tank was working as it should I've left it running overnight again.

Brave or stupid, you decide.

I will get some kind of level switch / float valve on the misting head, maybe some time soon.

On the contrary, I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

Do you know why it overflowed?

What, no pee taking.

No idea why it overflowed, the never overflowing tank was working when I left it and when I got back.

Some while back I tried the never overflowing mist wash (attended!). At some stage well into the procedure the outlet started to clog. I put it down to the cold mist water causing a a thicker waxy/soapy layer that reduced the outflow. I stoppped the mist input but if I hadn't it would have overflowed the processor.

Well I've been doing it for about 5 years now and all outside sometimes in - conditions and it's never overflowed yet, you sure you didn't work out the measurements after a tipple or three? :)

Keith did you use 22mm pipe or plastic drainage fittings?  Maybe Mark only use 15mm and that's not enough to cope with some thicker components formed?

Though I don't have a misting tank I'd have thought 32/40mm drainage pipe would be the best bet for the outlet.

Just to keep you happy y'daft sod, TOLD YOU SO. la la la ha ha ha.

how about using a couple of outlets? have one  a bit higher feeding back into the tank. if there is a blockage the extra head may be enough to clear it.

When I tried mist washing, I used small bore pipe for the overflow and that blocked but luckily I managed to catch it in time.

What caused the blockage I suspect was the start of an emulsion ... gloopy white stuff.  Probably wouldn't have been a problem with larger pipework though.  If however you do get an emulsion and you're not there, with bigger pipe work you'd loose the lot down the drain.

I tried bubble washing too ... wasn't impressed with it but if you were to use that method, at least every thing would be contained in the tank what ever happened.

Outlet is 1", for it to over flow it must be a blockage or the water coming in at a faster rate than it can escape, if your worried you can always attach the misting nozzle to a ball cock

Oi, steady on there, that sounds remarkably like common sense.

It's just a lot of pussy foot and tipy toeing around.  With pump washing you just slap it in give it a good whirl and drain it ... no messing about.

Firstly, Jim, thank you, I needed to be told.

Well I've just had another read up on the GL site (something I didn't do before converting my wash tank) and I've made a couple of mistakes,
1, I used 15mm pipe.
2, it's position was guesstimated.

So with all the info available to me I just forged ahead from memory.

Keith, I should have taken you up on the offer of the valve as well as the misting head.

So the concensors is an emulsion was the reason it overflowed, I can see why and tend to agree with this.

On the plus side my new defuser has worked nicely,
on the down side I lost 15 to 20L due the overflowing problem.

god I don't miss all the feckin about with water I used to do, especially when it's cold! But i hope you get it sorted, did you lose much bio?

I finished the last of your wet whites a batch back geez, was weird to be back on clear oil last batch, got a nice load from local mate and another load of whites from good ol romie, and picked up a local pizza place 30L every month so just about keepin ahead.

Glad you made good use of the ,er, oil.

I lost between 15 and 20L, not a major problem in it's self, but I now have a lot of cleaning to do.
