Title: One of those horrible moments - aka the importance of bunding
Post by: Tony on October 10, 2013, 01:08:12 AM
Did a batch this evening and finished up, went to bed.

At 12:30 I snapped wide awake.  Did I turn off that valve I opened to slowly drain some water off the bottom of the 1100l settle tank.  Must have.  Or did I?

Dragged self out of bed.

Oh, crap.

Thankfully I had put some concrete drive edging across the floor and cemented in - it held it all back within the designated area.

Bunding is wonderful!
It makes a very grotty job just grotty. My recent spill had no bund and was a water leak,
A 50l drum of hot prep ready to pump into the lister tank was minding its own business and a cooling pipe on the lister leaked. Fortunately all the water was caught in the 50l drum, unfortunately all the oil came out over the engine shed floor and down the path. Waited for it to set and picked it up with a spade,
Dick

I love the fact that you were greeted with that at 1am and you have the presence of mind to take a photo.

I hope you cleared it up before you went back to bed.  ;D

Well plan was to use the phone flash as a torch to peer through the window to assure myself that it was closed.  But then I figured I'd better just open the door and check it was tightly closed.

Yes I did clean up, the mono with footer valve (and toilet roll to get it to suck down to floor level) then scooping the rest up.  Needs some sawdust down to wick up the rest but it'll be OK :)

Tough luck, good job you remembered it.  At least you can be sure all the water's drained.

However, from the stories I've heard, that photo could be your shed on a good day!

Off back to the councillor that treated you when you filled the back of your wagon with WVO..........
Major case of OCD on the cards I'd say.
Expect to be waking up in a cold sweat at least three times a night for the next couple of weeks.
