Title: First 'bio-powered' cup of tea! : )
Post by: julianf on August 25, 2013, 11:01:13 AM
We're just sitting here drinking our first brews, cooked 'glog' style!

Its all a bit fly-by-wire at the moment (just had to run a whole load of hot water down the drain to try and cool the system - now have the central heating on too!) but i think its a real achievement, esp considering the antics we've been through to get this far (i think you will have seen the photos)

Ive got the Rayburn stoked on glogs - glyc from my processor, carpet tubes from a fitter in the local town, and sawdust from a furniture place - all free, and it means i can make a little dent in the glyc mountain.

Anyhow, my brews getting cold, so time to drink up!

Nice one.  Last time I had a bio-powered cuppa was at the BBB, nice isn't it?

Brilliant. Go get a big kettle, and have it permanently hot. What my Grandparents used to do on their rayburn. Just make sure it doesn't run dry of water.
Something good about not having to wait for the kettle to boil.

Hmm...

Have the kettle sitting on the top - like on the enameled part, rather than on the hotplate.

Its gently hissing.  Im sure it shouldn't be!

I have the flue dampener fully closed and the spin wheel likewise.

I think i need to look into sealing up the fire doors better.  Its 'stock' at present, which, on this unit, it seems, means there are no ropes, just metal against metal.

I think i may be able to retro-fit some thin rope, which may calm it down some.

Next step will be a bath heated by glycerol logs too. Well done on getting it sorted before the winter arrives.

Now you can get those solar tubes connected over the winter ready for the next summer when you really wont want the Rayburn making the kitchen like a saune

We're back to immersion at the moment...

The old flue liner started to leak, and smoke started coming down the inside of the stack.  I mean quite a bit of smoke...

New (twin wall) kit has been ordered, and, by chance, next door have scaffold up at the moment : )
