Title: Added page on two stage processing

Any comments?

I'd quite like to make it a little less dry by adding a pic of the Glycerol being slurped back in or something.  I'll take some pics next time I do a batch - trouble is there isn't much to see.

Maybe I can take two samples during processing, and compare side by side in a pic so the relative amounts of settled glycerol can be seen at the ends of stage one and stage two.

Nice page, well done!

I used to do a 3/27 at the end of the first stage, just out of interest.  I don't bother any more, but a photo of a 3/27 at the end of the first stage compared to one at the end of the second might give some visual value.

Ah, interesting idea.  I'm quite curious as to the results of that too. :)

Another point, we have a mix of 27/3 and 3/27 references in the wiki, I'd like to make them consistent.

I've always called it a 27/3, but I see the original infopop thread calls it 3/27.

Also, googling "27/3 test biodiesel" returns 100k hits and "3/27 test biodiesel" returns 167k hits.

So I'd be tempted to adjust my personal lexicon and make 3/27 the wiki standard if that's OK with everyone else?

Actually:

27/3 test site:vegetableoildiesel.co.uk - 2500 hits
3/27 test site:vegetableoildiesel.co.uk - 950 hits

So it's more popular to call it 27/3 in the UK.

Sigh, nothing is ever simple is it?

No it's not!  I've always known it as a 3/27 test and have only noticed it being called 27/3 in the last few months.  What ever we decide I think we have to keep a constant standard.  Being a stubborn old sod, I'd go for the former, it's what it started out life as.

Also it's not an issue, but isn't it easer to write a link [[titrate|Titration]], than add redirects for each variant?  Or is there some other cunning reason I've missed?

Probably, I'll change it.

I've also added a 3/27 page if you wouldn't mind a peer for factual correctness.

Been a busy boy then ... another good page, well done.

I added an ° sign, but isn't the ration 1:9?

Probably being too precious now but I think we've usually put "Source: BassAddict" in the past to credit photos.

That's not precious, that's diligent, and I appreciate it being pointed out.

I've made the appropriate corrections.

Just keeping an eye on http://www.biopowered.co.uk/wiki/Special:WantedPages and what we're missing :)

Yes, I keep looking at that page and thinking I should get my finger out, but I'm just really busy with "stuff" at the moment.  Works slow, so I should have a bit of time, it's just that "stuff" keeps getting in the way.  Can't work out how I fitted "stuff" in when I had a proper job!

I'll make a separate post so no one's double working, but I'll shortly have a bash at the venturi and eductor pages.  I want to make an eductor for my plant, so I'll do a step by step photo guide to accompany the text.

Also in the middle of making a multi function 20 litre drum warming come fat melting come static dewatering come 40 litre preheat tank.  So I'll do a page on that too once the "stuff" is out the way!

I know exactly what you mean  ;D

There's lots of things I want to do but stuff gets in the way...

It's been 3/27 for years, it's only recently I've seen people getting it the wrong way round.

Julian, I followed your suggestion and have a fabulous photo to add - will hopefully add it before too long!

Good suggestion chap :)

We like that!

I'm surprised so much glycerol was present in the second stage sample - the few times I've done it before I've done stage two and just had a few spots of glycerol drop out, nothing like that much.

Looks about the same as I get, but then I've been experimenting with altering the proportions of the two stages, making the second stage a higher percentage.  So far with good results.

Simultaneously I've been reducing the catalyst, probably scared by the 80 litres of soap I made a little while back. This also with very good results.  Last batch I used a base of 4.5g NaOH and arbitrarily reduced the titration figure by a few points and got what was probably the second best 3/27 pass I've ever had after an hour processing the second stage.  I think I'll have to try test sooner after the introduction of the second stage, my guess is it's converting quite quickly.
