Title: In-line strainer to protect FPHE?
Post by: julianf on May 08, 2013, 04:19:00 PM
Ive been using various exchangers (coil / baxi cast iron lump / radiators) for a while now to pre-heat my veg, but they are very slow.

For example, the average indirect coil is only about 0.3 m/sq in area, so, although the water is hot, the transfer to the veg is slow.

I have a large fphe, but i dont want to wreck it with BCBs.  Im wondering about fitting one of these in-line with it -

I read they have a removable mesh filter.

Wondering if anyone is familiar with them?

Yes K.H gifted me one a while back.  They have a little steel mesh liner that is indeed removable and cleanable.

Would you say my plan is reasonable then?

JIM on VOD has given me the fear about them blocking, and, as i want to operate one on my processor, i need it meth / temperature proof, which rules out a normal filter.

They're entirely metal construction, so temperature and methanol proof.

What's the issue with it blocking? You can always fit a PRV and a dump back into the reactor if you need to maintain flow.

The issue is that, if it gets full of BCBs, and back flushing does not work, its "new FPHE" time : (

Ah, you mean the FPHE blocking, not the filter.

Yes, I see what you mean.

Anyone ever tried to take one apart? Are they welded construction or pressed? Seal material?
