Title: My new control panel
Post by: Huntman40 on April 05, 2013, 10:41:13 PM
Well my abs box finally turned up so I decided to crack on and build my control panel.

its a nice compact design with forced air cooling for the SSR so the heatsink could be encased.
I still need to label everything but its quite simple.
compressor switch
pump switch
heater switch

forgot to get the cable grip things for the wire entry points, what are they called? Ill tidy up the wiring and lace it all up and it will look tidy.

just thought id share.

Trying not to feel deeply envious and guilty that I've not started my new control panel yet!

Very nice :)

Im pleased with it, its functional for my simple single tank processor.

I have over 90 of those 15A toggle switches at a good price if needed.
It didn't take long to build either, from gathering all the parts in the shed to as pictured in about 4 hours.

I enjoy making electrical things but dont have much free time

GLANDS!!! thats it. Many Thanks, ill head off and find / salvage some and at very last resort, buy some..

sorry about taking so long, it's just getting silly now, I'm seriously not doing it on purpose - I'm dyslexic, my memory is screwed, I have no control over what I do/don't remember :-o

that box looks very familiar to one i seen before somewhere lol :)

did you have to drop the volts from 240 to 12v for the fan? what did you use?

also how many water proof box cable grabs does one need? i may have some hanging about on my front room floor...

also got some of your fan covers im not useing if needed?

Believe it or not it was that photo of your box that made me start thinking about it a few months ago. i liked its compact size so set my sights for the same. I found some glands but thanks for your offer.

Im planning on disassembling a 12v power pack for the fan feed, not sure how that will go.

I have now put the labels on and made the 2nd vent hole. The ssr should have adequate cooling

Nice job you have done there would that not be dangerous with meth fumes in the air in-case that fan blows them into the inside of enclosure.

That's why I fit my Heat sinks externally.

You'd walk a bit funny if you didn't.

I dont demeth and my processor has a good seal and a vent pipe.
Im not going to loose any sleep over meth fumes, im confident of a good seal

Heat sinks get hot, better to keep them out of the way

for your fan use an old phone charger, 240 down to 5 or 7 volts...

could even use a battery, prolly last ages....

in the end i decided to give one of these a try for the fan power. Im trying to think of a more sustainable source of transformers for more professional jobs.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370704254100?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

but in this case im doing as you said with a 9.5v somthing charger just plugged in outside the box :)
I was thinking of disassembling it but with its pending replacement i cheated and wired it externally.

why not use a 230v ac fan? You can get small ones 80mm or so?

This one is 120mm
